I am beginning to think that my GPU is causing the problems, seeing as the symptoms are the same as described in the link provided above.
What are your suggestions to address the issue?

I think it does, because there is a VGA slot in the back of my computer, away from the two DVI slots of my GPU. However, if I took these out, would that prevent Windows from being installed due to it not finding a graphic card?

you could take the video card out ?
Yes I can

Actually, upon checking I find that it is a VGA-out slot. However, my monitor has a USB monitor function. If I took out my GPU and ran my monitor through the USB would that be okay?

I don't have one. I'm going to run my monitor through the USB function. Would it be a good idea to remove my GPU and then attempt the install?

Sweet it came out nicely (I have two chips 2GB each).

However when I restarted, I went to boot menu, and booted from CD. The windows loaded files. Then it showed the loading bar that Windows 7 shows when you turn the computer on. After that then it went to what appeared to be a Windows 7 desktop minus everything but the wallpaper and mouse (in something like 800x600 resolution).
What's up with that?

I havent read the entire thread but that sounds like a video card driver. What video card or chipset?

Ken

Sorry I had to reboot this computer.

Do you have one of these VGA ports on the computer & a cable that can connect it to the monitor ? Without using your GPU card.

I guess this is your MB ?

Does not look like it has on-board video VGA :(

Do you have any other video cards that will fit in your motherboard ?

No, this is the first proper computer that I have bought, following a few laptops that don't have salvageable parts that would be of assistance. Would it be worth taking my computer to the shop for them to put in a video card that might be compatible and installing Windows there? I am desperate for it to work, I am so sick of XP.

Do you know anybody that might have an old PCI video card ?

Insert it in 1 of the 3 white PCI slots. Then try install yourself again.

I hate to see you have to take it to a shop.

I have done 2 different installs today without any problems.

Are you installing on a empty HD or a second partition to the XP ?

I just re-read all the posts here. Are you sure the DVD you burned is good, without errors.. Sometimes a burn at 4x works best. What build # of win7 is this DVD that you are trying to install ?
