Hi All, What a great forum. I have just started with a Netbook and win7 starter and other than the Wallpaper issues, I have to say I am impressed with what it will actually do rather then feeling forced to upgrade to Home Premium. I can live without the wallpaper, but what has happened to the Public Desktop? I have two Account names and now the files are totally separate. I can't Copy items from one Desktop to the other, I have to install the software in both Accounts. That sucks. Is there any way around this? Thanks.

Please see this Windows 7 Comparison list.

I can only assume your problem has cropped up because you can't join or create a Homegroup.

I may be wrong of course, so if I am, I'm sure someone else will have the correct answer. :)

Sorry, you're right, I need to sort my eyesight out. :)

However, I'm not quite sure what you mean by the term Public Desktop.

Do you mean User Account?

And what is it you're trying to copy?

However, I'm not quite sure what you mean by the term Public Desktop.

In Vista under "Users" there is a "Public" folder and under that there is a "Desktop."

You can Copy or Move Shortcuts from any of the User Desktops to the Public one and they will all be visible to all User Accounts.

With Starter (not sure about other version of 7) there is no Users\Public\Desktop

Also, I can't Copy Shortcut from Admin\Desktop to Guest\Desktop. Well, I can actually Copy it, but the Shortcut will not work.

I have installed several apps in my Admin account and now I will have install those same apps again in the Guest account. Seems like a lot of work since I have about 50-apps that need installing.

Had there been a Public Desktop, I could just install them all to that Desktop and they would be accessible to all of accounts as it is with Vista and everything that came before Vista.

There is a Users > Public > Public Desktop, on my Win 7 Ultimate? You have to show hidden and system files to see it though.

There is a Users > Public > Public Desktop, on my Win 7 Ultimate? You have to show hidden and system files to see it though.

Ahhh Ha! Thanks, that was it. I thought I had already checked that, it is usually one of the first things I do with a new OS. I did a Win-Update a few days back and that may have switched it back.

OK, happy camper again. Now I only need to load stuff the once. The lack of Copy and Move from User Accounts seems a new thing for Win7 though. But, I can drag (Move) from a User Account Desktop to Public so it is all good.

Thanks again.
