win7 wierd behavior after idle 15 minutes?

makes noises like it's rebooting (monitor is off so dont see the visuals), HD whirs a bit, then when I turn monitor on, the light blinks a few times like its not gonna come on. after a few seconds, monitor does come on and screen looks normal. do NOT hear the boot beep so I dont think computer shut down and rebooted.

get the same scenario when I try the "sleep" mode. Is this peculiar or normal?

Hi and welcome

doesn't sound normal to me. why dont you check event viewer (type event vwr in search). go to the wondows logs>application tab and see if there are any errors (they ahve red in the left column) that relate to the problem. You can narrow the amount of data you have to look at by goint there right after the problem occurs.
