Win7 x64 Email Clients that support OAuth2?

Afternoon All,

Does anyone know of an email client for Win7x64 that supports OAuth2 authentication - that works?

Still running Win7x64 for my daily. Received an email from M$ telling me they be switching to 'modern authentication' in Sept of 2024. Currently using 'Normal Password' auth which will be refused after September.

Tried downloading the last available version of Thunderbird for Win7x64 (115.9) and although it has OAuth2 as an option, it doesn't work for sending. Receives email ok though. Have a thread going on the TB forums about this, and it looks like they only got round to fixing the OAuth2 issues after they dropped support for Win7.

I think gmail also needs OAuth2 and has done for some time.

Can't find any desktop client that works with OAuth2 for Win7x64. Tried the latest slypheed but couldn't see the OAuth2 option.

Looking for suggestions from people that are actually running something using OAuth2 w\version number.

Office 2016 supports Windows 7 so either it or 2013 should work. Outside of those I don't know.

Is Outlook free these days or do you have to buy Office to get it? Freeware would be better. Thanks.

Just my opinion, and not really answering your question, but Web mail seems a lot easier if you're using Windows 7. All you need is a browser. As time goes on, desktop email clients will stop working on W7, while as long as you have a working browser you can still use web mail. Supermium is a version of Chromium adapted for Windows 7, for example. After Firefox stops supporting W7 with Firefox ESR, that may be the best browser option for W7.

Personally, for email I use Proton Mail, because it prioritizes security. working fine for me on Windows 7 with Firefox ESR. I'll have to figure something else out in a few months, but I'm confident an option will be there, simply because so many people still love Windows 7 and won't use anything beyond it.

FYI, managed to get Thunderbird working on Win7x64 SP1 using OAuth2, send and receive.

Some of the earlier TB versions that offer OAuth2 don't seem to handle the auth set up with M$ correctly and this is what was confusing me. You get a cryptic error message from Microsoft about not being able to sign in with a personal personal account. Later versions of TB don't generate this error message via Microsoft.

The version that I'm now running is TB v102.9.1 (64-bit) in Win7 SP1. You must use your primary email account and not an email alias, which means for me a hotmail.com account. This was was causing the problem with OAuth2. I kept getting a password errors on send from Microsoft SMTP email servers.

Last version of TB that installs for Win7x64 is 115.12.2 but the UI is different to earlier versions so I'm running 102.

Good for you Fiscoking! I hope you can continue using your preferred email forever. It's a great feeling to defeat the "upgrade, because we told you to" mentality. Keep on keepin' on!

I'm curious as to what in the 102 UI you found preferable. I looked at the portable versions of both 102 and 115 and can't say I see much difference.

Also, how do you keep 102 from updating itself to 115? I tried turning off automatic update in TB settings, but after a day or two it always turns itself back on.

I have to move to TB after running into endless problems by MSFT mail apps (OE, Outlook, hotmail, , ,)
I still use MSFT products. Windows, Office, Discord but no any Post/Mail clients.
