So I have dual boot xp and win 7 and my hard works fine more or less (no OS is installed on it) but on xp it goes on and off sometimes, so I read about it and someone recommends that in bios I set esata from IDE to ACAPI caus' it's better that way.

I did and it works much better in xp now but..

in win 7 it doesn't even recognize the hard drive anymore, help me please.

I believe you got lucky that XP still works with this, as changing IDE to AHCI in the bios usually merits completely re-installing the OS afterward as it will no longer recognize the format.

So my only solution is to reinstall win 7? Are you sure?

Wait, I think I misunderstood what you were saying. I believe the problem is that you are simply missing the proper AHCI SATA drivers in Windows 7. You'll need to go to the Asus website and download the latest sata drivers for your motherboard for Windows 7 and install them.

Let us know if that works or not.

It worked! Barely. Thanks man!

For some reason I couldn't install drivers from the asus site (newer ones), I got the message " the computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" wtf I couldn't install from my motherboard cd either until I set it to vista compatibility, I actually installed the JMicro RAID drivers as there weren't any others, also two exclamation marks are now gone from the device manager.

And I thought win 7 installs these drivers automatically.

Hm, I have an Asus P5E and have installed all of the drivers from the Asus site (for both Win7 x32 and x64) several times and never had an issue.

I assume you are running Windows 7 32-bit, correct? Do you have the latest BIOS updated 1101? If not, I would update that first, then download and install the latest chipset drivers*, then install the sata drivers.

* Sometimes, to get Windows 7 to install the chipset drivers, you have to run the downloaded exe from the command line with the following "<chipsetname>.exe -override -overall". If you just double click the exe to install them all, Windows 7 will sometimes say "no thanks, the ones I have are fine" and not actually update them all.

Well I updated to 1101 but still get the same message.

Oh, I haven't tried the chipset drivers first, I installed those before the bios update but can try it now after the update.

Make sure that you install them via the command line as I stated before, otherwise it may not update them all.

Download the drivers to your desktop. Launch a command line with administrator privileges (right click, run as admin), navigate to the desktop by typing "cd Desktop", then run the installer by typing "<chipsetname>.exe -OVERALL -OVERIDE" where <chipsetname>.exe is the name of the exe you downloaded.

Also, make sure the drivers you are downloading from the asus website are for windows 7 and not windows 7 64. (unless you are actually running 64)

Nope, still get the same message when I try to install sata drivers.

But doesn't matter the old drivers seem to do the trick.

Did you successfully update the chipset drivers via the command line?

BTW, often times Asus doesn't have the latest chipset and matrix storage manager drivers (in your case, you have the P35 chipset) and you have to go to the Intel site and download them yourself. So, I've provided the link for the latest drivers from Intel's website below that you should download and install from the command line as stated above:

Chipset Drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...D=&DwnldId=18494&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng

Also, while I was doing this, I noticed an available download for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) drivers that include AHCI (the ones you need). So, after doing the above and restarting the computer, download and install the below drivers as well:

Rapid Storage Technology Drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...D=&DwnldId=18859&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng

Hopefully that gets everything up and working for you.

Depends how you look at it, the setup went fine but none of the file were updated, reason is because I already updated them before the bios update, since the hardware didn't change after the bios update there is no reason to update it again I suppose.

So the chipset drivers are installed, bios is up to date, not sure why I get the message, if only it offered some explanation.

I replied before your latest post, then modified my reply to include some even newer drivers. Please check that out and do that, if possible.

Well the first one didn't do anything at first, then I used the commands you gave me and it seemed to have updated something.

The second one seems to be the same as the driver from asus as it gave me the same message lol only it did it in a prettier menu.

Yes, the only way all of those drivers will update in Windows 7 is if you run it from the command line as specified. So, at least you know you have all the latest chipset drivers now.

I would install the RST drivers like you did the others from the cd in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.
