Running Window7- Pro 32 bit.

Doing search this forum indicated solution is power off machine, when prompted by Windows System not shut down normally, Select "Restart Windows Normally or Normal Restart" and all will be well.

I haven't done this yet today , but have started Windows Normally previously in the past because of non-normal shut downs. (ie. I powered off the computer w/o going through windows normal shut down process -- My Error -- and was prompted by windows on restart).

Anyone found a solution to this Registry Machine Update.

It seems to normally occur after windows updates were downloaded and installed.
System then seems to reboot and I get "Windows Update Registry Machine X of X) where X is some value - 2002 this last time.

I also noted that Windows update configuration was reset to Automatic Updates where previously I had Windows Updates set for NO automatic updates.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Thanks for the link.
Ran KB947821 and looked at check log: "CheckSUR.log'.
No errors detected.

With the screen prompt I received: "Window Update Registry Machine X of X"
or something to that effect (appeared it was modifying HKLM in the registry)
no error was every generated.

I just don't like all these updates by everyone and his brother without my knowledge / authorization. Thought I had all this disabled (AutoRuns, Services)
but Windows Update itself states that it can change your undate settings at will,
so obviously there are some hooks in the Kernel that Microsoft can use to override whatever.

The posted prompt of concern is unknown to me -- never saw it before Windows 7
.
Whether this has to do with all the new Windows Security and BIOS revision or something else I'd sure like to know.

BTW, looked at the other log files and nothing in the log for yesterday or day before so whatever update was made never hit the logs in
