Windows 10 "upgrade" has given me 1 hour

Hi, windows 10 is trying to force me to install it, and I don't want to.
It has popped up and says "upgrade will start in [59:59]" and will not stop.

I didn't want it to download. I don't want it to ever download again. I absolutely do not want it to install itself.

Please help, this shit has gone too far.

Edit:
It is possible that my drunk friend clicked the wrong box when the godawful GWX advertizement popped up earlier this week. I have jumped through nine flaming hoops and told it to un-reserve, and the countdown has stopped. Sorry for panicking, there was a death-sentence on my PC for a minute there. If anyone has a confirmed way of getting this thing to **** off forever, though, I'd still be interested in hearing it.

Thank you, seven forums
-Wrex

Hello Doc mate run the batch file from Option one here (the disable one)Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums to stop the upgrade from going ahead.

There are other methods and stuff that can stop the nag but do this first. Myself I go into regedit HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE - Software > Microsoft > Windows > Windows current version and right click the GWX and delete the entry but it is something only you can make the choice to do.

Another good tool is this Ultimate Outsider - Software Downloads - only use the control panel in it click the button I have outlined in my pic

Edit I keep the control panel on my desktop for ease of use

@ ICIT2LOL. John have a look at this Thread.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/392894-beware-kb3139929.html

Having read it I decided to check whether I had the GWX folder back in my System 32 section in Windows & sure enough it is there again.

The worrying part this time is that you can't delete it as it's locked & "You need permission to perform this action."

I have deleted the GWX settings in the Registry & have run the 10 Forum suggestion as well & the GWX folder still can't be deleted.

It was installed on the 24 Feb & is the latest KB3035583. I will uninstall that again & hide it when it comes back.

Update.

After installing KB3035583, rebooting & then checking for Updates again it reappeared so I have hidden it again & lo & behold the GWX folder in Windows, System 32 has disappeared.

Yes mate now I know why I cannot delete that GWX reg entry anymore and like Wolfgang in that other thread unless the update specifically says Office security or a patch for the .NET stuff although I have my doubts about that stuff now I don't download anything especially the recommended or optional.

I am trying Linux Mint at the moment when I get chance and it is not that much different fro Windows apart from the terminology in the GUI ;)

Hey thank you for all the help. Apparently they're patching people's fixes, though, so it seems like everything we do is just temporary.

You let me know how that mint works out for you, because I am switching to linux in the near future.

Yes I know Doc as I use the GWX Control Panel just about everyday now and there are still 10 files in my machines.

The Linux is pretty good once you get used to the different terminology and the fairly frequent use of the terminal command (command prompt in Windows) it can take some of the simplicity out of using it.

Look if you want to have a go with it see this tutorial and use a largish stick say 16GB or above is preferable and you can run the OS in it http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/287439-emergency-kit-save-your-files-dead-os.html You could even do what I did and just slip a new hard drive in and use it to boot from - it's only a matter of changing back the drives to get back to Windows. If you don't like it then you have a spare drive. Having said that not using it only leaves you with one option and that will be a no choice from 2018 when they drop support for 7.
