Wolfgang, concerning privacy I would be much more concerned about the Chrome you installed than anything from Windows.

Chrome, like any Google program, is pernicious spyware. You cannot turn it off as long as it's installed. With Google sites like Youtube, you can stay signed out to not be tracked, but Google programs are tracking your every move and pasting into browser ads based on your private searches and even email conversations...

I have to agree with Greg here. I've also seen malware come in when installing Chrome.

Hi guys, Thanks for all the good information (of which I was of course aware). But what about the poor sucker that does not know all of that.

I was discussing and arguing the general direction and gave a few examples of my own experience. None of that is critical for me except the automatic encryption of my little laptop which stunned me for a while. But now I am expert in Device Encryption. So I got one good thing out of it.

IMO Chrome is malware. I will not install it.

The last time I forgot to sign out of YouTube, I had ads for searches I'd done all over both browsers and on my DirectTV which apparently is now using Google analytics to target ads to subscribers.

Are you aware that if not signed into this site (the vast majority of visitors) you will see Google ads for dodgy tools we strongly oppose pasted into our posts designed to look like we advised them? Even the owner of the site has no say over this except to give safe harbor once signed in.

Many don't know that the owner of this site fought for years for us to have a safe Download site for Win7 ISO's that didn't get a DMCA warning from MS which is supposed to be used for piracy and which causes Google to rank our search results down below inferior sites. Our Admins took heroic steps on behalf of the consumers that should be told: Windows 7 ISO downloads rule - Windows 7 Help Forums.

As a result we helped literally millions of consumers reinstall and repair their PC's with disks they couldn't' otherwise get except from pirates. All of this is an epic continuiing struggle against corporate obtuseness.

Well I have reading all these great post. Somewhat enjoyable and informative.

I do understand that their are those that need and use Cloud Office products on several system all over the world. But most don't.

I'm quite sure that on the Ten Forum their will be buckets full of tutorials on how to turn unwanted thing off in W-10. Most users on this globe will never read those tutorials.

Most users will slowly except this Bing thing jumping at them all the time. I think that is exactly what it's designed for and set as default.


I can't think of the amount of problems encryption will cause around the world.
I still not sure if Cortana is a spy or not.

I'm quite sure members here and on the Ten Forum will work around and learn how to set things the way they want them. The question to me is why.

Why should one have to be some sort of a techie to use a basic operating system.

I will have no problem with the members here and the Ten Forum help to get W-10 the way I want it.

Why not just not have all this B/S as a option one has to activate instead of having all this B/S one has to figure out how to deactivate.

I am a Fan Boy of Microsoft but not a lemming that follows the Pied Piper.

Because of my lack of knowledge I need some help.

1. Can't one use many copies of Microsoft Office and Cloud using Windows 7?

2. Can't one sync their computing devices using Windows 7?

3. Can't one choose to use Bing on Windows 7?

4. Can't one choose to use Bing Desktop on Windows 7?

What ever those things are; their should be a basic list one could read and decide what operating system suites their needs and desires.

Such a list whether you are a world traveler, work for a large enterprise, small business, or a dork like me at home a list like this would be very helpful.

I'm not trying to find ways not to use W-10 rather I'm looking for ways to want to buy Windows 10.
Free version is nothing but B/S hope and pray methods done by Microsoft trying to get more W-10 in use over W-8.

Show me something that is worth buying. A operating system is one of the cheapest things one can buy for a computer system. Plus it is what makes all the money spent on hardware work.

It just makes the terms of use some what easier for Microsoft to disclaim any liability or limit liability for any damages for equipment hdds.... to near zero
You get back what you paid for the os.

Having an expendable 8.1 might be my only reason for taking Microsoft up on it's offer but then again as bad as the "should be simple" last build update went so badly for me from 9879 to 9926 so 8.1 will be on a expendable "cheap" hdd instead of a valuable ssd.

oem's are usually pretty cheap anyway when first released so the costs would be minor to skip the upgrade it just might take a little longer because manufactures are first in line for oem's

Either way Microsoft does need a good tool to find out if mother boards are compatible with these new fast start features otherwise it could get messy
2 million testers are nothing compared to billions of windows machines out there and most of those are 7'ers or at least half the holdouts from 8-8.1.

This latest chart is from Oct 2014 when MS had 92% of desktop OS share, but drops to 62% when you include mobile devices. Since this is what they were aiming squarely at in Windows 8, it does tend to make you wonder how much they may still skew 10 to touch and mobile.

A better idea is having Continuum adjust the OS at install depending upon the device which is what I thought it is for.

Good chart and clearly shows the target audience not sure how it will turn out though without better tools to check for compatibility issues with older machines mine didn't go well which is reason enough to pass unless I just stock up on hdds to use every startup.

Chrome is no malware. The discussion was about Chrome downloads that may carry a payload of undesirable junk. I never encountered that but some people apparently did.

All I know is ie11 isn't very good in either os so yes alternatives are great,
