Chrome came up because of IMO unwarranted claims of privacy worries in Windows 10 by those who use Chrome spyware.

I have never heard about Chrome installer, downloaded from original source to install malware. It does not happen, have not ever happened and I am quite sure, knowing Chrome's importance to Google it will never happen. I suspect this might be a misunderstanding or a case of mixed memories...

It downloads a 46.16 MB installer. Chrome may be a spyware or may not be, I dont know. I have it installed, but I usually dont use it.

But the above download is free from malware.

To install Chromium itself on windows. You would need to compile Chromium or use chocolatey to install it. I really don't know how safe chocolatey is to use. I have backup, I tested it myself. It does install all dependencies via command line or power shell.

Newer version of Opera are Chrome based.

Flash wouldn't be sandboxed-there might be some workarounds that I am not aware of.

Getting back on topic, I've not tried the 10 Technical Preview as I'm waiting for either a CP, or I'll go with a very late TP as I'm interested in seeing how well a close to finished 10 will do with some old software. I'll probably go late to the free upgrade offer as well since I'll be waiting to see certain software and driver updates for 10.

On another note, thanks to all of those writing the 10 tutorials. It will help those of us who've not upgraded in awhile (8, etc.). Kari's very detailed Hyper-V tutorial will especially be of great use to me when I get there as I think I'll most likely make much greater use of that than I did 7's Virtual PC.

An example of how wrongheaded the gripes presented here about Windows 10 are is that concerns about privacy and cloud intrusion are bandied about by those who celebrate Chrome which is the worst spyware I've ever seen, that literally tracks your every move then pastes ads all around you - even on the TV!

Yet Chrome is preferred by these to Firefox which bends over backwards to protect consumer privacy and along with IE blocks Google from being able to spy from its search box. I get no banner ads from Firefox or Microsoft, so why is Windows 10 suspect but Chrome gets a pass?

I don't believe I've said anything about Onedrive... as far as privacy is concerned
I believe my only gripe is they are installed
But I can see why in a tp that they would be Microsoft wants users to use them,

I would hope all of these utilities would be where they belong in the app store and not installed along with News.....
Especially if anyone used a local account instead of a Microsoft account.

As far as Chrome ? I just don't like it's install and not so clean uninstall

Gregrocker, I see nothing wrong with Google chrome. It is no different then cloud storage. Google Chrome from what I read keeps track of where you visit, what you watch, what add-ons you use. If logged in, you can opt out of Google saved Searches. Unless somehow related to Google it doesn't keep track of secure purchases you may make or any banking transaction you may do. You can bank freely using Google Chrome. Microsoft is doing the same thing with windows 10 preview they are also monitoring everything on your computer.

Installed Google programs (which cannot be removed from Startup) and remaining signed into Google sites relentlessly tracks your searches, shopping habits and even email conversations to paste intrusive interest ads that are only partly mollified by the Consumer Advertising Opt-Out Initiative they supposedly belong to. I get none of these ads when I uninstall and stay signed out of all Google. The others conform to the Initiative designed to keep legislation at bay. Google is too powerful to worry.

Not only do I get no unsubscribed ads generated by MS or associated with Windows 10 improvements, for the first time I get no more webmail ads from Yahoo by popping it and all others into Windows Mail, which also gives helpful customizable mail preview popups and Start menu Mail updates.

You have to be signed in to adjust settings ie = no different than Google's tracking,

As far as not being able to remove stuff from startup :/ it has been a while but updaters are just that updaters,
If someone unchecks an updater from startup and uninstalls that program everything unchecked will show Unknown not just google stuff

So tip of the day is to recommend rechecking items or switch to Normal startup before uninstalling anything to insure you at least have auto updaters starting up so they are uninstalled properly with the program.

As far as things tracking you, good luck with avoiding that. Seems like everyone is out to grab your data nowadays. I've noticed an upturn in the scripts I need to allow on web pages in order for them to function properly (through NoScript). Not just one or 2 sites, but all over the net.

Since Chrome was created by Google, & Google loves user data, it would be logical to assume they have trackers built in, some of which we may not even know about. An article a while back stated using Chrome is like having Google sitting behind you taking notes on where you go/what you do.

Although in all fairness, I'm sure this applies to a wide array of things on the net now. And it's probably going to get worse because with these trackers comes convenience. And most users in the populace don't seem to mind giving up little tidbits of info if it means they can save a click or 2.

Yep browsers are now usually judged only by if a silly game works more than if they track your activity
Microsoft has seen Google get away with it for years and Google is the most popular browser so cookies are now part of Microsoft's drive to even the score,
Visit Microsoft Community I did using Linux and was shocked at all of the recommended cookies you need to allow and java script to run :shock:
