Wonder if you guys can help with an installation of SP1 for Windows 7 32-Bit. I have attached the cbs.log containing the error information however all the fixes suggested around the net (disable AV, selected startup, install in safe mode etc) don't work and the service pack still fails to install.

I am not sure what it is I am looking for in the log but if someone can help me out by pointing me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers!

There are known issues with SP-1. Some requiring re-installation of certain previous updates. Google it.

what is the error codes you get (if any)?

Cheers but having read through them all none of them apply to this issue.

It's a bit pathetic in 2011 that they can't even roll out an update without creating a cryptic error that could potentially be caused by anything, even their own help system for the error tells you absolutely nothing.

Yeah man just literally finished doing that now, gets to 2% on configuring the service pack and then fails and says reverting changes, attached the screenshot of the error. Getting frustrating now as I have spent a good few hours on this, I'm just going round in circles now.

I wonder how is set DEP (Data Execution Prevention) in your system parameters and if you have MSE aswell. In that case set DEP lowest to Windows services and programs only (reboot) and disable MSE the time to install SP1.

Thanks for the reply. From what I can see DEP is already selected for Services and Programs only.

I was on live support with a Microsoft represnetitive for over 3 hours last night and after exhausting all of the fixes around the net he elevated my support call for call back from someone else higher up tomorrow. To be honest I have little faith in actually resolving this without a clean install. I have tried registry fixes, uninstalling drivers, safe mode booting, using driver cleaning software, uninstalling specific updates, changing specific services to start automatically, tried everything. I think because it bombs out so early on in the configuration of the Service Pack that there are fundemental files that are either missing or corrupt and these are files that the Windows Repair/Check Disk and SFC are failing to pickup on.

I am left with the unfortunate possiblity of having to reinstall Windows :(

Humm...well backup your stuff, be prepared to factory restore.

I'm sure you won't be missatisfied after a clean install & SP1 install.;)

Thanks for the help guys. A fresh install sorted it. When looking at the CBS.log there were way too many errors for files missing and because I am on a raid, when I tried to reapir it wanted the Raid drivers confirming but for some reason it wouldn't accept the ones I use to install it so I decided to gut it and start again. Know this won't help anyone out but I couldn't be bothered pratting about with it anymore.

Have had two failed attempts to install the SP1 update. Both times I get the error message E_FAIL (0X80004005). This error occurs after the install and on the subsequent re-boot. When the computer has nearly re-booted this message appears "Failure converting Service Pack. Reverting Changes.". The re-boot hangs for nearly half an hour before showing my desktop with the error message shown above.

I must have spent three hours on this today and don't know what to next.

Any help gratefully accepted

I had the same error message and spent at least six hours trying to resolve the problem to no avail. in the end I did a 'repair' install of Windows and this solved the problem and most importantly left all my programs and settings etc., intact. SP1 installed without a hitch. Hope this helps

I went the repair install route after much frustration. What has been changed from RC to RTM version of SP? I had no problems with either the beta or RC. Can only assume that something terminal happens when you delete SP RC to install RTM version.
