Hi, I have random freezing and don't know what it is. It completely stops responding and sometimes loops whatever sound is on at the time. The keyboard won't even respond when hitting num lock or caps lock. I've used memtest86+ 4.00 from a bootable cd and have no errors. What other tests should I run?
My system is custom built with -

It only seems to happen when playing a game and usually within the first 15 minutes of starting it up. I played dirt2 and sacred 2 so far on my computer and they both freeze up almost every time. When checking the event log it says:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Please help me narrow down what the problem is. I was thinking maybe I need a bigger power supply? Thanks.

Hi and welcome

event id 41 means "

A. Event ID 41 appears on systems with multiple CPUs if the CPUs have different stepping levels. The text in the event log will be:
"The CPUs in this multiprocessor system are not all the same revision level. To use all processors, the operating system restricts itself to the features of the least capable processor in the system. Should problems occur with this system, contact the CPU manufacturer to see if this mix of processors is supported."
Best bet upgrade BIOS.

also run a system file check by typing cmd in search>right click and run as admin>then sfc /scannow

Thanks for responding so quickly. when I went to look for a bios upgrade on the asus website the only M4A77TD board is pro and it looks a lot different than mine. When i tried the system scan thing like you suggested sfc /scannow, it froze at 15% :(, will try again. Also i forgot to report that my memory is supposed to be ddr3 1800 with timings 8-8-7-20. when I performed memtest it says ram is ddr1333 with timing 9-9-9-24. the board also says it supports ddr1800 but when i went to look at the ram setting in bios it only goes up to 1600. I haven't changed anything yet in bios. Where can I look for a bios upgrade since i can't find one on the manufacturers website?
Thanks.

Ouch

First revert to stock every where. you may not need bios just not to change, or OC. I see so many problems with OC (as someone who examines BSODs) Most 64 bit, most memory, abt half from voltage changes or OC.

when back at stock, check the problem again.

let us know

oh i haven't changed anything in bios. i just looked at what the options were, i normally leave everthing at stock because of problems with O.C. So Everything is set to auto like it was when I built it on christmas eve.
Well i rebooted the computer and was able to run sfc /scannow and it completed and says "Windows resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
So what can I do to find a bios upgrade since i can't find the board on the asus website?

Power Supply

I would like to add that the power supply you have is really not enough power supply for the video card you are using the video card you have requires a minimum 450 watt power supply with a single +12 rail delivering 24 amps of current

The Rosewill you have is a dual +12 rail model with 14 amps on rail one and 16 amps on rail two and the wattage rating is 450 watts max who know what the continuous rating is and the dual +12 volt rail design does not allow for using the combined amperage of those two rails so you are left starving your video card for power.

You would be better served with something like this Corsair witch is rated at 650 watts and has a single +12 rail that delivers 52 amps of current plus it's 80% plus efficiency certified and carries a 5 year warranty and is only $40 more than the one you have never skimp on a power supply.

did you check for proper ram voltage sometimes the board will not set the proper ram voltage i have seen it undervolt the ram and cause this issue as well

Something Else

something else that you might consider is the SATA cables I went through a stint awhile back with Biostar they used to send red SATA cables with their boards then all of the sudden they started coming with the yellowish cables that were not only different in color but the material at least of the outside sheathing was different less flexible..... anyway I got about 4 or 5 boards over the course of a couple months that started having issue like yours and as a diagnostic step when I am faced with weird stuff like that I always replace the data cables learned that a long time ago anyway that's what the problem was it's easy to overlook cables and SATA cables don't like being bent into hard angles leave them as straight as possible or get ones with angles plugs

ok so it finally installed windows 7 and everything is working fine only when i change the timings on the ram to 8-8-7-20 like it's supposed to be but i can't get it to work above 1333 and the ram is supposed to be 1800. I also manually set the voltage to 1.86, the ram says 1.85-1.95 so maybe that's what did it. If it freezes again i'll post again but it seems to be working.
