Please can someone offer advice. As the titles say above, I'm having trouble downloading and successfully installing Internet Explorer 11 for My Dad's laptop; Windows 7, 64-Bit Home Premium Edition.

What occurs, receive a prompt from Microsoft informing you need to update the browser and gives you a link with a list of prerequisites / Knowledge Base.exe's, around 9 in total which usually say already been installed and not applicable to this particular pc (recently just ran the Windows Update). Begin to run in to difficulties when trying to download all the associated files for 'Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R 2Service Pack 1' (KB976932), http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=4090. After selecting all the files, and on the top bar and clicking allow - nothing is happening; just appears to refresh the page and hangs.

Looking on the internet, been reading this is common issue but I can't seem to find a conclusive fix.

Thanks

The Windows Update process should handle installing service pack 1 (if it is needed).

Click on the Start button...
...then right click on Computer (right side of the Start menu)
...select Properties from the context menu.

Does the info say service pack 1?

Hi,
Which version exists on the laptop now ?

If anything but ie10 I would hide the ie11 windows update and search again till you get to the next series beit ie9-10 or which ever is next in line
After than run updates again and get each security patches for that version

Once all that is done unhide ie11 or if you had to hide ie10 to get ie9 repeat the process.

At present it's Internet Explorer 10 - think it this was already on the machine (it was bought with Windows 7 pre-installed, but with no boot disk). It's my Dad's laptop, and he mentioned that it has been prompting him on various sites he goes on to update; it does this for YouTube when I've taken a look. Mostly it's for his e-mails in Outlook, which if your Internet Explorer is not up to date, opens what looks like a mobile version, no good for my Dad.

I took a look in Windows Update, as I was having some issues with that (have posted on here last week) and there appears to a download for Internet Explorer that keeps failing. The error code: 9C57.
