Windows 7 and Canon Digital Rebel XT camera

In XP, as soon as I connected the camera via USB, the pictures would download automatically to Canon's software "ZoomBrowser." In Windows 7 it just does not work anymore. I've updated the software from Canon's site, and there are no drivers available for the camera.
The camera is detected in my computer, although it shows differently if the USN connectivity is changed in the camera's "Tools" menu from "Print/PTP" to "PC Connection." It appears both ways, but as a camera in Print/PTP, and as a storage device in PC Connection. Go figure..

In any case, I'd like to get it working in Windows7 the same way it did in XP. I can always remove the CF card and use a card reader, but I'd like to get it to work the way it diod... It was easy.

Try downloading DPP off canon website. I have a canon 50d(uk name) but use lightroom, and its a long time since i have used canon software. When you connect your camera, a dialogue box appears with "what do you want to do with these files", if you tick automatically open with zoombrowser that will solve issue. Or you need to deafault zoombrowser when you plug camera in?
Any idea what the uk name is of your rebel, for interest

I think the International name for the camera model is 350D. It's getting a bit long in the tooth, but is in perfect condition. The battery has been discharging of late in a matter of days, so the people at Canon think that the battery may not be supplying full power. I do not get any dialog box when I connect the camera, and I've got Digital Photo Professional downloaded already.
I'm going to try a new battery, and I'll report back.... And thanks for the reply.

Forget doing this from the camera.

Remove the flash card from the camera and put it in a USB card reader instead. ZoomBrowser can read from the card while inserted in card reader exactly the same way it can read from the card when still in the camera... except no camera drivers are required.

It's shown in ZoomBrowser as Tasks -> Acquire and camera settings -> acquire images from memory card.

That camera was supported with drivers from Canon under XP but not under Win7. Don't worry about it. All USB card readers are generically supported by Win7.

Just spend a few dollars and pick up this 56-in-1 USB card reader from IOGEAR and you'll never have to worry again. Use the card reader instead of the camera. Works perfectly.
