Windows 7 boots into Startup Repair after moving partition.

Hello,

My Windows 7 now refuses to boot properly and now only boots into startup repair. This started happening after I shrunk and moved the /dev/sda2 partition (on my computer, the C:\ drive), so I could install Ubuntu. I did notice that Windows failed to boot but I was stupid and didn't fix as soon as I realized. I installed Ubuntu (and with it, Grub) and now Windows just boots into Startup Repair which just says it can't do anything and then displays some HP software that gives me a few options (none of which has helped). It may be important to note that I have the option to go to the command prompt.

I have tried all the fixes I have found on the internet (such as the various bootrec.exe commands) to no avail and am becoming desperate! Please help!

Windows just boots into Startup Repair which just says it can't do anything

Silly question, but did you have the Windows OS Install Disc in the CD/DVD drive, when you were attempting to run the Startup Repair?

If not, please do that, ensure that your Boot Order is set to read discs (look in the BIOS) and try booting from the Windows disc again.

I was not given an install disc when I bought my computer unfortunately but I made a recovery disc using the control panel and that didn't do anything either when I booted from it. I have attempted the fixes in the link you suggested already but all that happens is a message saying the operation was successful, and Windows still failing to boot properly.

Mark Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved (preferred if you have it) Partition Active.

Then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

When you say active I assume you mean to mark it with the boot flag in GParted, which I have done. Startup Repair just says that it can't sort this problem automatically every time I run it. If it is any help, /dev/sda1 is my SYSTEM partition, /dev/sda2 is my main Windows partition, and /dev/sda3 is my recovery partition. None of these are extended partitions.

This is not a Linux forums. We use Win7 tools and methods here.

Follow the blue links to mark Win7 partition Active then run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots until it starts.

If that fails use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows. The best demonstration of the exact commands and how to sequence them is Steps 1-3 in this post: Bootrec Commands Sequence

What I was saying is that I have done everything you asked, but using different software that was easily available to me. I was asking whether it was the same and diskpart also reports that it is active, and I believe in my original post I explained that I already did the commands that you told me..

I you've run Startup Repair 3 separate times no matter what it reports, and ran all of the bootrec and bootsect commands as sequenced in the post I linked, then GRUB may have corrupted Win7 beyond repair.

There are some more than a dozen other steps in the Troubleshooting tutorial I posted earlier. Are you saying you did all of these? Normally when there is no interaction on the steps it means they were ignored.
