Hi, I have Windows 7 Professional installed and have been getting a lot of BSOD recently. I ran BlueScreenView and here is the result of the .dmp files. Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm not very tech savvy. Thanks in advance! ================================================== Dump File : 080312-33696-01.dmp Crash Time : 8/3/2012 5:30:15 PM Bug Check String : SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Bug Check Code : 0x1000007e Parameter 1 : 0xc0000005 Parameter 2 : 0x82e98039 Parameter 3 : 0xa002fb44 Parameter 4 : 0xa002f720 Caused By Driver : srv2.sys Caused By Address : srv2.sys+1b465 File Description : Smb 2.0 Server driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 6.1.7601.17608 (win7sp1_gdr.110428-1525) Processor : 32-bit Crash Address : ntkrnlpa.exe+92039 Stack Address 1 : ntkrnlpa.exe+8dc22 Stack Address 2 : srv2.sys+1b465 Stack Address 3 : srv2.sys+20229 Computer Name : Full Path : C:\Windows\Minidump\080312-33696-01.dmp Processors Count : 2 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 7601 Dump File Size : 144,208 ================================================== ================================================== Dump File : 080112-34429-01.dmp Crash Time : 8/1/2012 12:55:26 PM Bug Check String : NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Bug Check Code : 0x00000035 Parameter 1 : 0x8621ae98 Parameter 2 : 0x00000000 Parameter 3 : 0x00000000 Parameter 4 : 0x00000000 Caused By Driver : srv2.sys Caused By Address : srv2.sys+1b3f6 File Description : Smb 2.0 Server driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 6.1.7601.17608 (win7sp1_gdr.110428-1525) Processor : 32-bit Crash Address : ntkrnlpa.exe+dee9c Stack Address 1 : ntkrnlpa.exe+3758a Stack Address 2 : srv2.sys+1b3f6 Stack Address 3 : srv2.sys+20270 Computer Name : Full Path : C:\Windows\Minidump\080112-34429-01.dmp Processors Count : 2 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 7601 Dump File Size : 144,208 ================================================== ================================================== Dump File : 061212-30310-01.dmp Crash Time : 6/12/2012 1:02:11 PM Bug Check String : SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Bug Check Code : 0x1000007e Parameter 1 : 0xc0000005 Parameter 2 : 0x82ca9039 Parameter 3 : 0x9f20bb44 Parameter 4 : 0x9f20b720 Caused By Driver : srv2.sys Caused By Address : srv2.sys+1b465 File Description : Smb 2.0 Server driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 6.1.7601.17608 (win7sp1_gdr.110428-1525) Processor : 32-bit Crash Address : ntkrnlpa.exe+92039 Stack Address 1 : ntkrnlpa.exe+8dc22 Stack Address 2 : srv2.sys+1b465 Stack Address 3 : srv2.sys+20229 Computer Name : Full Path : C:\Windows\Minidump\061212-30310-01.dmp Processors Count : 2 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 7601 Dump File Size : 144,160 ==================================================

  • Just to update, I ran memtest86+ all night and my RAM modules seem to be in fine condition
  • I also ran sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r and both those results did not return any errors
  • I loaded the repair utilities from a Win 7 Recovery disk to repair boot errors, but it said that there were no errors
  • I also ran driver verifier, but i got a BSOD upon restart, before I could get into Windows. I restored the computer to an earlier time via the Win 7 recovery disk
  • Also, when I tried to load into Safe Mode, I could not. The system just hangs at classpnp.sys. I'm not sure if the two are related, but I thought I would post it on here anyways.
Here are the dump files, which I have uploaded to the Sky Drive. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Justin, I downloaded the SF Dialog Tool, but everytime I click on Minidump, it gives me an "exception error," and I'm unable to proceed. That's why I uploaded the minidump files to the Skydrive in my previous post.

I just read the instructions again, and I think I need to run the program as an Administrator. Will try that right now... my fault!

These are only the dump files. There should be more files. Did you click each button for each file?

For now I will take a look at these and post back. But try to get all the files as said in the tutorial.

Thanks so much, Justin.

Upon removing those two programs, do you suggest I run any tests to see if they were, indeed, the culprits? I guess I can always test whether I am able to start in safe mode, which currently, I am unable to...

Thanks once again for taking the time to help me!

We are right now troubleshooting. We are trying to narrow down the problem to be sure that we have the culprit. But yes try this in safe mode.

What happens when you try to boot into safe mode?

I uninstalled both SuperAntiSpyware and Norton Internet Security 2012. I tried to boot into safe mode, and again, the safe mode stalls at classpnp.sys.

I am able to boot into normal mode without problems.

Any ideas? Thx!

The computer is booting into safe mode again.

I think the problem was not so much that it was not going into safe mode. I think the computer was going into safe mode, but you just couldn't see it since there was no signal being sent to the monitor for some reason.

I opened up the computer and removed one of the graphics cards on the PCIe x1 slot (one came with the computer on the PCIe x16 slot, and and I added one to the PCIe x1 slot). I found that there was a loose connection on a cable to the DVD drive, but not sure if that had anything to do with it. When I started the computer without the second graphics card, and with only one monitor attached, the safe boot went normally. When I reseated the second graphics card and attached all the monitors, safe boot failed again - the screens would go blank again after loading classpnp.sys

Then, I decided to disconnect two monitors, and only kept one on, and guess what, the safe mode proceeded normally. So, there was obviously something going on when all monitors were attached, which caused the safe mode to stop sending a video signal. I was able to duplicate this multiple times. The problem seemed to be with the monitor with the VGA connector (the other two are DVI). I even changed the VGA cables, but that did not help. In both cases, the video signal would be lost. The strange thing is that booting into normal mode had no such issues!

I opened up the computer again, reseated the graphics card, tightened screws on the motherboard, etc., booted normally, uninstalled the graphics drivers and re-installed them. Tried to boot into safe mode, and everything worked as it should

So, at least the safe boot problem seems to be resolved!

Hi Justin,

Safe mode is working fine now, with all three monitors attached.

What do you think about the hotfix that I mentioned above? Do you think it's relevant to my crashes, as evidenced by the mini dump files?

Also, looking at the information that I uploaded, besides SAS and Norton, are there other issues that were identifiable from the reports? Outdated drivers, other conflicts, etc.?

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks.

Nope - but the forum helpers need to know what's going on, otherwise you could end up getting conflicting advice, and then everybody gets confused.
