Solved windows 7 build 7601 not genuine

I have been running win 7 on this laptop for years but yesterday the not genuine message appeared along with the black desktop. I think win 7 is genuine. What can I do? I have tried sfc scannow and chkdsk
and both came back clear.

The product key is off an ACER OEM key .

The number on the report above is not the same as the key supplied with my win 7 disc which ends CDFMD-DHWKT-C8GXC. This is an update disc from Vista that was supplied on the laptop but if I try to change the key to this one it tells me that it cannot be used for a clean install.

Did you do an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 ? The key on the bottom of the laptop is for Vista ?


The key belongs to an ACER and your specs say you have an HP . You will have to get a legit key for your Windows 7

I have sorted it by loading Vista again then upgrading to windows 7 with the product key ending C8GXC and everything is working fine including activation and 138 updates were sucessfully installed.

It was supplied with the disc from software for students.

But they key you used is from an ACER . You should talk to the place you purchased your key and get a legit key. That error message will happen again.
