Hi, I bought my laptop over 2 years ago with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit already installed and today it has come up with the above message. My laptop is an HP G61. The diagnostic report is below. Can anyone help solve this problem? Thanks.

I think you need to reflash your computer bios and see if slic table gets refresed, then manually validate via internet.

Refreshing the BIOS almost never works
What is needed is to change the Key installed from the OEM_SLP Key currently in use, to the COA Key on the sticker on the machine's case (which does not rely on teh BIOS SLIC table to activate)

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the product key has worn away from the sticker on the bottom of the keyboard. All I can see is the serial number, product, warranty and model. Any suggestions?

Oh, also, when I turn my laptop on and the HP logo comes up it says "There is no serial number" (or something to that effect) in the top left corner...

The HP serial number problem is a common one - and not 'important' as such - it means that you've updated the BIOS, and the information on the old BIOS wasn't retained.
This could however be the cause of your problem.
You should see if there is any option to revert the BIOS change - going to the HP forums for assistance may help there, because......

Your problem is that for some reason, the system is unable to properly read the SLIC table in the BIOS, which is required to be able to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key with which the computer came installed.
The normal solution is to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker - but you say that you are unable to read the Key there.
In such circumstances, the only things you can do are
1) recreate the Licensing Store - in case it's a minor software problem causing the misread
2) try updating the BIOS to the latest available Vista-compliant one, from the manufacturer's website
3) Contact the manufacturer direct, and see if they can provide assistance to correct the SLIC table
4) a reformat and reinstall using the manufacturer's recovery media
5) purchase a new license for Windows (or a new computer)

Please first try recreating the Licensing Store.
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sitcker on the machine's case (or whatever it will accept for the moment - you current Key is "4FG99-BC3HD-73CQT-WMF7J-3Q6C9")
Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

When I get to the bit where I need to type in product key it says the key isn't valid. I re-booted and did a new MGADiag report anyway and here it is:

Yeah = that's about as expected

I see theat I posted the wrong option 2 above -
you should attempt to update teh BIOS to teh latest WIN7 compliant one and see if that helps - go to HP's support site and see what you find for your PC.

Yeh, I did the Windows 7 one and I think I've got the latest BIOS update. There were a couple of other updates but said something about a USB mouse so I don't think it applies, or should I just try them all? There are 3 in total and the 1 I tried was already the one I have on my laptop. I think my next step is contacting HP...
Are there any real issues with running my computer with this Windows not genuine error message? Thanks.
