Windows 7 cannot read usb flash drives

I have a problem with my PC. It is simply can't read lot of USB drive. I need to restart in order to be able to read it. Sometimes it is working or else it is still fail to read.

I don't know what is the problem but I get this Inaccessible Function error. And when I checked at Disk Management, the file format of the USB flash drive shown as RAW.

I have Ubuntu on my PC (dual boot). And it is just working. Therefore for some reason, my Windows 7 is stupid enough to detect my USB file system.

If it is RAW, it is not formatted and cannot be read or written to. Format it in Fat32 or NTFS and it will work. It was probably your Linux that mucked it up.

It wasn't. I have another laptop and it can read the FAT32 properly. As I said that it is working if I restart the computer. So now you going to blame my linux. Good answer.

Windows can get "confused" by all the old (and sometimes conflicting) USB storage driver data that tends to collect and remain installed on a PC

DriveCleanup removes all currently non present "Storage Volumes", "Disk", "CDROM", "Floppy" USB drives and their USB devices from the device tree.

Try this.

Download drivecleanup.zip v 0.8.1 from Drive Tools for Windows. Unzip it to a folder, select the 32bit or 64bit drivecleanup.exe depending on your OS and copy it to the c > windows > system32 folder.

Shut down your Comp, Unplug all USB devices from your computer.( you may keep USB KB and mouse plugged)

Reboot.

On an elevated command prompt type drivecleanup.exe and Enter. After the cleanup close the window.

Shut down your comp and reboot. Plug in your USB devices for a clean and fresh install.

May or may not help to fix this problem but no harm in removing the accumulated muck and avoid future problems.
