Windows 7 cannot see files/printers on XP

My laptop is Windows 7; when it was Vista it could print and see files on my XP computer. But now, no. I've deleted Norton 360 from Windows 7; but no effect.

I can see the shared objects on the XP computer from Windows 7, but cannot access them.

Any hints, help is greatly appreciated.

Don't forget to download and use the Norton removal tool to get all of that infection out.

For XP/7 sharing, don't forget to right click any files you want to share on either computer and allow sharing and grant full permissions. Do this all the way up/down the explorer chain to/from the files you want shared.

Make sure homegroups are set up on Win7 computers with Advanced sharing options ticked correctly.

In the properties box for XP network adapter, tick file sharing box.

Control Panel>My Network Places>Set up a home or small office network>run wizard and make sure name is set to workgroup if that is what (default) WIn7 computers use.

Reboot all. XP computers may still hold out, only be available to share to/from using the Win7 computer.

Sadly, I've done all that already. I can see printers, for instance, but cannot access them. I have a folder, C:\stuff which is shared, and in Vista I could get to it, but not now. I get the "not enough server space to process request" error, but I think this is not correct.

That's the second time today I've come across this problem which was almost certainly caused by Norton AntiVirus!

Not enough memory to complete transaction. Close some applications and retry.

These error messages can indicate an incorrect IRPStackSize on the remote computer (the one you are trying to access over the network). In the remote computer, open the event log and check for event ID 2011. If this is present, it may indicate this particular issue. To repair it, you need to set the IRPStackSize parameter in the registry back to its default value of 15.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters

Check for the presence of a value named IRPStackSize. If it doesn't exist, create it as type DWORD and, with base set to decimal, enter the value 15. Exit from the registry and reboot the computer.

Some AntiVirus programs are guilty of altering this setting and causing the problem. Also have a look at this Microsoft Knowledge Base article which applies to XP too:

I had a similar situation-today-nearly all day as a matter of fact.I had to use my original XP disk and run it in my Win7 desktop rig to get network sharing operating.My new notebook with final release Win7 joined the network without incident or the CD.Sorry I can't comment on the Vista thing as that's one OS I skipped completely.
