Solved windows 7 can't reconize with local network interface driver software

Lol I am so stupid for not thinking of this before, sorry. Can you physically check your LAN Ethernet device in your (is your computer a laptop or desktop?) computer. I think that if it was working fine before, then it can't have been a software problem, but a physical problem. I think your LAN Ethernet device might be physically damaged.

HI, well the black box ( modem(?) and all included wires ( ethernet cord. power cord ect) were replaced by verizon 1st as I figured it was the box/connectors that were damaged by the lightening. But when this replacement didn't resolve the problme of not being able to go online I called Dell and after many hours on the phone with their tec support I was informed that it was a software issure since the 'local network inferface driver' was no where to be found...Does this make sence? And the 'local network inferface driver' is the same as the LAN Ethernet device right? So how do I go about physically checking this out? Oh and it's a desktop.

Its a desktop? Great. If your computer was on and connected to internet during this lightning strike, then the LAN must have gone bust too. That is because the modem is connected to the computer, and of course passes currents, so when the lightning strike, the current must have fried your LAN Ethernet. What is confusing though is the fact that your computer still works, as the motherboard must have gotten fried a bit. I am merely assuming btw. It can't be a software issue if your LAN ethernet was working fine before the lightning strike, UNLESS, you changed your LAN Ethernet after the lightning strike.

Can you open up your desktop build, and take a look around for your Broadcom LAN Ethernet device. I am not sure if your LAN Network Device is built into your motherboard, or separate, although it is usually built into the motherboard. Check if the Broadcom LAN device is damaged or burnt or anything like that.

HI, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Well, I opened up the tower and looked everywhere all along the motherboard and did find the lettering NIC and just about everywhere and there is no burnt/smokey anything... I was kinda hoping there would be so we'd know what is going on. But nothing. Where the ethernet jack is on the outside, in the inside theres a little metal box that's connected to the board...would it make sence to somehow pry that off and peak underit? If this can be even done?

Hi, Verizon replaced the modem, ethernet/USB cord, power cord and telephone cord. I had figured that it was the modem box which had been affected by the lightning..

So nothing in your actual computer has changed right? Also, was your computer on and being used (connected to the internet) while the lightning happened?

HI, no nothing has been changed in/on the computer (except for the new verizonl equipment I mentioned earlier) and the computer was on and was online when the lightning happened.

Well lets go back to the drawing board.

It can't be a driver issue because the Internet was working fine over LAN before the lightning.

Verizon did not replace any equipment in the computer, the components stayed the same.

Hmmmm, can you try with another device (computer, laptop, ect.) with a LAN port and try to see if you can manage to get the internet working on it or not (to check whether the replaced things by Verizon work properly and as intended)?

HI actually I am using the replaced/new verison equip. on another computer as I type. I switched it over to another older PC to get online to try to fix the broken PC so it's not the Verison equip.
It must have been the lightning because literally the moment lightning struck the internet box/computer flicked on/ off and although the computer continued to work no internet connection was found from that moment on...

Well caldom, I'm sorry to say, but part of your motherboard is damaged. Luckily, most of the motherboard is ok, but the integrated Ethernet LAN device is bust. Your motherboard might deteriorate over time because of the lightning, I am really not so sure and am guessing, but anything is possible.

The solution is to buy a Network Interface Card, which you will have to plug into a PCI port (normally integrated into the motherboard, although yours is busted). HI, well ok. that makes sence to me and I did ckeck out the link you included and the NIC had all good reviews and the price was certainly reasonable. But could you tell me if this is something I could install myself? Onto the motherboard?

Yes, you can install the NIC easily onto your motherboard. You can't remove the existing Broadcom NIC since it is built-in into the motherboard (do you know if your Broadcom LAN Ethernet device is built into the motherboard or plugged into a PCI port?). Once you buy the NIC, you have to open up your computer tower, and plug the NIC into a PCI port on the motherboard (the product you buy should have all the instructions on how to do so).

It seems your motherboard is working fine, because everything except the Network LAN still works. Have you plugged anything into your PCI port?
