Windows 7 crashing and freezing

Well, my computer always crashes and freezes so I do many reinstalls. I want to know, if download games that may contain viruses can be a cause? My problem with freezing is only when windows starts up. The orbs freeze at the same time every time. People have been saying bad CPU, but how would I check for that? This one post actually helped me about changing something I 256mb on startup or something, setting it to low. If anyone knows what Im talking about, please post!

May we get your system specs and network setup so we know what hardware we are dealing with?
