I've run across this twice now and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the same and has a solution.

Twice since I've installed Windows 7 I've gotten into a state where double clicking my desktop folders does nothing. It appears that everything is still running, but I can't open anything new.

A screen refresh does nothing.

A reboot solves the problem.

Ideas?

Thank you!

Is there a specific application you run before the issue occurs? Such as... let's say you open up an instance of Microsoft Visio.... and then the problem occurs.

What program, website, or game "causes" the issue?

When it hapapens, open task manager and see what is running, the folders are probably in use. Right click on task bar to get task manager

There doesn't appear to be any piece of software that did it, but I THINK that both times it happened when I was remote desktopped to my desktop via my laptop. Then, when I went downstairs to my desktop, there was the same issue. Double click stuff and nothing happens.

I tried the task manager route and one time stopped EVERYTHING it allowed me to stop and the problem still persisted.

Take the memory diagnotic test. Sounds like memory

When it happens type event viewer in search and look for errors.

I will try the event viewer and have scheduled a memory test on the next restart. Thank you.

try hitting the Windows key twice. from RDC disconnection, sometimes numlock enable/disable and windows key disable/enable

I would try giving it more time with the double click. There was a situation once where the hard drive was going to sleep, or something like that, and would not wake up quickly enough.

Also, what happens if you just single click? There is a setting to allow opening folder by single or double clicking.

Also you might try adjusting your double click speed for the mouse.
