Windows 7 enters Power Save after 20 minutes

I have 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium here on my home-built computer. The monitor enters power save mode exactly 20 minutes after I last touch the keyboard or mouse. When I am watching movies on my computer, it gets frustrating that I have to move the mouse every so often just so that I get 20 more minutes of uninterrupted viewing time. Unlike other users here that have reported similar issues, the computer returns to normal once I move the mouse (for another 20 minutes, then returns to power save). In addition, sometimes the sound mutes when it goes into power save mode.

I would like to know how I can disable this so that the computer does not enter power save mode. My Windows 7 power settings are already set to High Performance mode, to Never turn off the display and Never put the computer to sleep. The advanced settings have also been set not to enter power save. Yet the system still goes to power save after exactly 20 minutes.

I have looked at monitor settings, video card settings, and BIOS settings to see if there are any power save options that I could select or change, to no avail. I contacted eVGA (my video card manufacturer) and ASUS (my motherboard manufacturer) about the issue, and both replied that the problem was with the Operating System.

I have been stumped as to what has caused this problem, and other Windows 7 forums that I have presented this issue to have not come up with an answer, so I hope someone here can point me in the correct direction. Thanks very much.

From start, type in "power options" -> choose when to turn off the display -> never

Do you have your screen saver enabled, to go to blank monitor?

The Screen Saver is disabled, and the power save issue still exists. Forgot to mention that in the initial thread.

Actually, the EPU has power saving modes, including monitor. I wanted to make sure that wasn't set.

I LOVE Asus, but HATE their utilities.

Some Asus board users had reported having issues with both EPU-6 and Asus AI with 7. The new versions have resolved some of those issues for some of them.

Hmmm... maybe I should try them again. I was so turned off from bad experiences ...

You could also try updating the intel chipset driver.

Download the utility from intel here

Click settings in the left box.
Click the drop curtain in the right box and pick what you want if it isn't right.
Mine was Never by default.

Thanks, it looks like it was the EPU telling the computer to go to sleep. Thanks so much, I've changed the settings and we'll see how it turns out.

VLC will not make the screen sleep, or go on screen savor, Trust me its quite the video player
