Ok Friends

My first post and sorry its an issue

I have windows 7 ultimate sp1. I am facing an issue . I have a modem for my internet. Have a desktop and lappy. when i connect the lan to my desktop. It works and i can surf or download. But when i connect the same cable to my laptop then it does not recognize the IP address. It normally assigns automaticaly but now i get 169.0... (APIPA ).

WHAT I TRIED

Uninstalled ethernet device (software & driver )
Installed it back. No go

did reset tcpip by running command specified on MS website. Also did netsh winsock reset catalog .. restarted the system

Disabled the firewall no go. Disabled the antivirus still nothing.

Now it wont even let me surf through wifi ( i used to connect through my phone tethering )

Checked the ipv4 and v6 . its set to obtain ip adress and dns automatically.

I even tried to change the speed control from Auto negotiation to half duplex 10 MB & 100 MB

IPCONFIG /ALL gives me APIPA

IMPORTANT:- I tried in Safe Mode with networking and IT WORKED.

All i can say it is not an issue with modem, not with the cable not with ISP. its definitely my system Windows 7. I thought of system restore but I wont do it.

Please help. Thanks Mate

No.. No router... I am saying the issue is in the system. The same cable works on my desktop. Its the laptop on which the IP is not getting assigned . Please read the steps that I have already tried

I did a system restore and it fixed it. I think When i uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security 2013. That's when it all got screwed up. Now all working.. ( I will still be very keen to know what happened actually )
