windows 7 explorer not responding

Well Layback Bear, thanks again.
Sorry about the Orb, because I really did not know it!
But let me tell you: I just used it and got the following message:
Windows Explorer (Not responding)
So it seems that no matter what you do, the Windows Explorer is not working.:(
But I told you: I donwloaded FileSearchEX Software. It works perfectly.
When I use the search, I mostly use the name I gave the file. Mostly, I gave the name in spanish, like "cartaXXX", but the root for that document is always "doc" if you use WORD or "docx" if you use WORD 2007 or 2010. So, if I search "carta para IVSS", I usually write "cart*.doc" and voilá: WE searchs for all the Microsoft Office files beginning by "cart".
I will try to use the tools you just gave me. I like to read!
And if you are running out of ideas, there is allways the tool to install Windows again.:shock::shock:

The problem is the following: We did not solve the problem or inconvinient. Should we leave it UNSOLVED?
Once again, Thank you.

Yes leave it unsolved there/their will be others that can give some ideas.
I have put a request in for more help and ideas. After a lot of infections sometimes you have to do a clean install to get it back the way it should be.

hello rllavane,

Try the MS Fixit for Explorer. I'll see if there is any information specific to the virus you reported. Sometimes one of the AV vendors has a tool to fix and clean. These tools tend to be more powerful than AV applications because they are tailored to address only one virus. I'll post any useful information that I find.

I could not locate a removal tool specific to WIN32/Injector.gen!CF

Here are two other AV tools that you might consider running

Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller (TDSSKiller - la herramienta contra-rootkit) and
Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2011(Kaspersky only provides a page in English)
---> Note: There is no support for this tool. You basically download it and run it on your machine. the download is self-inclusive.

Both are stand alone applications - they do not provide real-time protection.

edit: You're most welcome Layback, I hope we can help rllavane resolve this.

good luck,

Bill

I run the ESET Free Online Virus Scanner for almost 5 hours on my PC. It found 10 threats and erased them.

I would run ESET again to ensure it now reports your machine as clean.

rllavane: I'm curious, have you been using Windows 7 very long? Search changed back in Vista and I only recently figured out how it works. Search would not find a file that I could see in my explorer window.

Search is more powerful now, but it also has different syntax. The old way of searching that I was used to using never worked well for me. Bill*.doc seemed to be useless. Then I began to understand search filters.

Try typing this in the explorer search box:
carta kind:docs

Search does partial matches on carta, so anything with carta in the filename will be found
kind:docs tells search that you are only looking for documents (default=any MS Office documents)

You might also consider ticking the "Use Natural language search" option box in folder options. i think this does a better job if you are used to the old wildcard*.filetype searching.

Results also depend on which search box you start with (Start Menu, Explorer, WinKey+F). I still have a learning curve with regards to Search and Indexing. This all seems to come from changes MS has made over the years to improve search.

I thought I'd offer some information on searching after reading how you use search in post# 21. That description reminded me of my difficulty, not too long ago, with searching.

Is Windows explorer still not responding when you search?
