After boot up I was unable to start mint coz my my lap automatically get booted up with w7. But after restart my w7 got frozen at starting Windows logo. I tried to repair coz when I press power button it asks start repair (recommended) and second option as start Windows normally, but repair doesnt get started and hangs . I tried to install new copy of Windows from dvd and usb but in both cases it hanged at starting Windows and I am unable to install a new one.
so plz help me out . I am in big trouble.

Hi

I would recommend running Dell diagnostic and verifying hardware components first. To run diagnostics, press F12 during power on and select "Diagnostics" from the boot menu. A short test will be executed first and if it didn't find any errors, you will be asked for permission to run extended test. Let us know the result of testing ( and error codes - if any ) with next reply.

If hardware passes test, then boot the Win7 installation disk to confirm that the 100mb System Reserved (preferred if you have it) or C partition is Partition Marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

If this fails you can either proceed with the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start or skip to the step to rescue your files, from the booted Win7 installer then delete all partitions using the Drive Options in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7 to create and format new and reinstall.

Hi

i have seen corrupted partitions prevent Windows and installation DVD from booting. May be the Linux installation attempt screwed your current partitions. If you don't have any data to save, i would recommend deleting all partitions and install Windows from scratch. To do that, please download "Partition Wizard" boo disc image from the below link.

http://www.partitionwizard.com/download/pwhe7.iso

Burn the image to a blank cd and boot from it.

Burn a CD or DVD from an ISO file

Delete all partitions listed and make the disk "Unallocated". Press the "Apply" button to save changes and reboot the machine. Now retry booting from install VD.

Those steps have overcome 90% of install failures we've seen here in thousands of cases since Win7 beta.

Reply back the results of each step so we can see if others are indicated.

Did you wipe the drive as it provides in tutorial and was just suggested again? If not then there has been no real effort. Everything is covered in tutorial.

Anshad Edwana: Thnx frnd.. That software was awesome. I hav formatted my lap.
Now I have installed Linux mint.
But now when I start up my lap it stops at black screen. I know it is grub problem. But how to fix it ?
I can boot with live usb of Linux mint.

Let us know when you're ready to start with the steps that have helped thousands of others who actually cooperate.

Formatting isn't enough. You need to wipe the HD from the tutorial you ignored in my last post.

Hi

Instead of installing Mint, delete all partitions using "Partition Wizard" and then try booting from Windows install DVD. If you can boot in to the "install Now" ( below picture ) screen successfully, press "Shift" and "F10" key together ( shift + F10 ) and a command prompt window will appear.

Then use the command line utility DISKPART to wipe out the partition table. Please refer step 3 and onward of the below tutorial as a reference.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html

This is the same steps described in gregrocker's excellent tutorial - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/324687-windows-7-installation-failure-overcome.html - but i thought some screenshots may help you understand better. Remember to boot from "Partition Wizard" and deleting all partitions before attempting DISKPART.

Hopefully you will be able to install "Windows 7" after that. You can install Linux Mint or any other Linux distro later but we should first make sure the lap's hardware is fine. If "Win 7" install disc can't boot and it is stalling at the logo screen, you are dealing with a hardware issue here.

Let us know how it goes.
