I have a weird problem ever since I've installed Windows 7. Everytime after my computer was idle for a long period, like when I come home from work and start using the computer or after I have read a long article on the web, when I try, for example, to open a folder, open my browser or save a file, The computer freezes for a few seconds and I hear my HDD starts spinning, like it was "hibernating" while the PC was idle. After those few seconds everything works normally again. This is extremely annoying and I would like it to stop from happening again. Anybody knows?

TIA

Hello RFE,

This happens when have your hard drive set in Power Options to be turned off after x amount of minutes of idle time. When you use it next, it takes a few seconds for the hard drive to spin back up.

You can set it to be never like below to not have the hard drive turn off anymore if you like.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for your quick reply Brink. I changed it to "never" and hopefully now my HDD won't "hibernate" again. I'll report back in a few days after I have tested it.
