Solved Windows 7 Home Premium - Dual Monitor Set up

I am trying to set up Dual Monitors on Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System but I having problems.

My Desktop Computer is Dell Inspiron 570. Per instructions from Dell Technical Support, I installed an USB-Powered VGA Splitter. Per the User Guide instructions, I went to the Screen Resolution page. However, on this page, only one monitor appears. I clicked the Detect button and also re-booted my computer but still am having problems.

1. Can I have dual monitors with the VGA Splitter set up?

2. Do dual monitors work with Windows 7 Home Premium?

3. How do I set up the dual monitors?

Hi welcome to the forum

yes you can have dual monitors. just a quick questions why would you want to use a splitter it will only replicate whats on first monitor. i see from the specs you should have hdmi and vga output. i would hook one to vga and the other to hdmi. if your monitor doesn't have hdmi them you can get an adapter that goes from hdmi to vga.

I did what you suggested. I hooked one monitor up to the VGA connection. For the second monitor, I got a HDMI to DVI to VGA connector (that is what the guy at Radio Shack gave me). I turned on the 1st monitor, which worked. When I turn on the second monitor, I get a black screen with a message "entering power save mode."

Let me know what else you think I should do. Thanks!

ok try this just a test. hook up just one monitor with the hdmi adapter does it work?

i hooked up only one monitor with the hdmi adapter but it did not work. i double checked to make sure that the connections are secure. however, the monitor says "dell" and then fades to black with the words "entering power save mode."

please advise. thanks!

it sounds like the adapters do not work. i would of tried something like this. Belkin HDMItoVGA Adapter AV10145BT - Best Buy

I was wondering about that.... Anyway, I will get the adapter you suggested. If it is not in the store, I will have to purchase it online so it might take a couple of days for me to get back to you.

good luck sure hope it works. if you have a tv with an hdmi input might want to try that to see if you get a picture.

I followed your instructions. I plugged on monitor into the vga connection. I got an adapter (hdmi to vga) and plugged tthe second monitor into the hdmi connection. It works!!!
