Windows 7 Home x64 SP1 Repair disc - unable to start recovery

I have successfully created a Windows 7 Repair Disc using the "Create a system repair disc" from Control_Panel->Backup_and_Restore

When I attempt to reboot, using the Repair Disc I have just created, everything appears to work - Loads files, Windows wavy flag, etc. however; just as I am about to get into the real stuff I receive the following message:

This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair.

This is exactly the ssame message I get if I boot from the original Window 7 DVD and elect Repair option

Anyone any ideas what is going on and where can I go next

This is really important to me as when I use F8 during Post I do not have the options to repair the system here either and it freaks me a bit to be unable to repair the system should anything happen

Did you burn a 64 bit Repair disk?

Are you running RAID1 by any chance?

I'm not getting much traction googling the error text. Perhaps you should take over.

Yes I believe I did create a 64bit Repair disc (I am assuming the system knows I am running 64 bit and therefore created the relevant one) - I used the system utility - who knows - does MS provide a generic 64bit recovery disc?

Yes but on a different controller (see my system specs) and for data only

All my SATA connectors are used for discs so I have a PCIe <-> SATA II addin card that I have one DVDRW on and I also attach a USB DVDRW to ensure it is not a device problem

I have spent the best part of the last 2 days wandering around Google to the point my brain is hurting

I am afraid I am one of those that posts a questions as a last resort when all other avenues have been exhausted
