windows 7: hp officejet 4500 network printer

hi. i have this printer connected to my linksys router and i am able to print from my fedora machine after yum install hplip.

i am trying to set this up on my wifes win-7 laptop. i go to start -> devices and printers -> add a device.
and after a few moments it finds the printer on my network (hpf732bo-hp officejet 4500 g510g-m).

i click next and i get a page saying that the device has been successfully installed but after a few minutes a pop-up comes up saying that the install failed:

wsd print device     (green check mark) ready to use
wsd print device     (red x)            no driver found

when i try to print using notepad the new printer isnt available as an option.


when i go to the hp site to manually install the driver, it installs all the hp bloatware but at the end it tells me to connect the usb cable to finish the install. what is the way to connect this as a network (wifi) printer in windows ?

I believe:
Since it's a network printer, you probably need to add the IP address (assigned by the router) in it's driver on the Windows 7 PC, I'm sorry I can't describe that in detail, without having one, myself.

If logged into the router as admin though it should list it's IP info there under like connected devices or similar.

i tried installing the driver again and at no place does it ask me about ip address. it only cares to show me animations about how to set up the paper feed tray.

>> Went through this nonsense with several HP 4500s (different Sub-Models) when trying to install (Setup) the "latest" available Full-Features SW and Drivers downloaded package. Finally, after some W7 poking-around, "while the various HP scripts were running"... managed to successfully install the HP drivers (printer object / imager (scanner) object / DOT4 (USB-port-related) object / wireless transceiver object / internal PrintServer object) and the HP Solution Center (to remotely access Printer Settings / Ink-Levels / Et al) SUCCESSFULLY... on THREE different PCs in the same Client home. Two Laptops printing wirelessly via the Client's local GDI/Router/WiFi Box, and one Desktop printing via USB cable.
>> The KEY is to realize that HP did NOT have their 3RD-Party low-bid (foreign) Coders write ANY Drivers for Windows 7! When one unpacks the HP files into the (idiotic) ..\User\AppData\Local\Temp location (FYI: do NOT change the Default, or the poorly-written scripts will NEVER find their files!)... one can quickly discover ALL the driver files are for XP or Vista ONLY. Fortunately, Microsoft Coders DID write good stuff, and Windows7 'can' recognize and install such older Drivers in "Compatability Mode" automatically, when needed... without the User needing to do anything manually.

That web-browser BS-solution REQUIRES the latest Adobe Flash Player. ]
>> Worse yet, the Coder bozos's scripts do NOT check 1ST(!) whether you already HAVE the latest Flash Player... the script just trys to access a non-Existant page/file...... and a "process" just sits there, running in the 'background' of Windows 7, STUCK FOREVER. One can open up the W7 task Manager, and see it.
>> END that TASK(!) as soon as you see it running in W7 Task Manager.... then, and ONLY-then, will the Installation Scripts continue. And there are NINE scripts which run, one after the other... UNLESS you have chosen a 'Custom' install, and UN-checked the SW items you do-not-want-or-need (!), such as OCR / WebPrinting / ETC. *Your specific Model may run a different number of scripts, but one can "watch" each script and it's sub-objects pop into and out-of existance in the W7 Task Manager.
>> If you already have your 4500 setup and running, just bypass the 'Set up Printer' screen. At the tail end of one of the last scripts, a screen will appear that helps you set up ALL of your wireless configuration items (if, you will be printing wirelessly from your specific PC/Laptop). *When you have those done, it will ask if you want to Print a page... DO that, and, DO print the NetworkSettings page, so that you will have the Details for later when needed. Good Luck, everyone... your gonna need it.
