Hello,
I have been using Ubuntu 14.04 in my Dell Inspiron n4030 laptop. It runs without any glitches. But when I try installing Windows 7 OS on this PC the installation stops at the windows logo screen which comes at the beginning of the installation process. I have tried installing using a Windows 7 installation DVD. The same laptop ran Windows 7 before I switched to Ubuntu a couple of years back. Now I want to switch back to Windows 7 but I cant install it. Any help would be most welcome.

Thank you for your reply!
The DIskpart method will not work for me because my installation doesn't proceed ahead of the windows logo screen in the beginning and I cannot reach the language screen.

Yes I have reset the BIOS to defaults. I tried updating the BIOS too using FreeDOS bootable USB but because it was latest version it didn't update. I have tried installing from both Windows 7 DVD and bootable USB options. The installation DVD I got from a friend and it works on his PC. The bootable USB was created using UNetBootin in Ubuntu using a .iso file I downloaded. Using both methods I get stuck at the same place i.e. the windows logo about 20s after starting the installation.

Does the PC have a UEFI BIOS? If so what are the settings in BIOS for EFI, CSM, Legacy BIOS, and Boot Priority?

Confirm the ISO is intact, then burn a new DVD or Flash stick using only the tools in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7

My PC doesnt seem to have UEFI. I couldn't find the EFI, CSM and legacy BIOS options during startup. The boot priority is 1st Diskette drive, 2nd Hard Drive, 3rd USB drive...and so on.
The iso I am using worked in other computer.

Enter BIOS setup to Remove the 1st Diskette drive from boot priority, or if it can't be removed then move it down the list.

See if you can disable any floppy disk drive in BIOS setup, or physically unplug the drive. These can interfere, can't be used and are ancient hardware.

Set hard drive first to boot, trigger DVD drive using BIOS Boot menu key.

It shows in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7 how to compare the SHA1 HASH of your ISO to the official HASH.

I compared the hash with the hash given in the website but it didnt match. I built the iso myself using a iso creater. I already had the windows 7 installation files on my computer and I have myself used it to install windows from windows itself by clicking of the setup.exe file previously.

Hi chtz1 welcome to our forum.
Greg is surly the one to help you but you got me confused and I would like to be able to follow this thread.
Some questions if I may.

Where exactly do you have Windows ISO installed?
Where exactly did you get the Windows ISO originally?
How exactly how are you trying to install this Windows ISO and where?

I believe this information will help me understand things better.
