Windows 7 is not seeing my harddrive

hippytitimus, Welcome to Seven Forums and I'm glad you got it to work. Well done. I've never had a problem with Windows not recognizing an IDE drive, but it is good you worked it out. Even though you had some difficulty along the way, I'm sure you learned a lot about computers in the process.

essenbe, Ive not had any problems installing windows in the past either, and i can go back to the early days of windows 3.1 etc. most versions had there little problems from time to time, but these Gigabyte mobo's in certain setups seem to throw up more problems than most, and losing the IDE DVD on install of windows 7 was one of them. Using a sata dvd is no problem, but no matter how the bios was set for ide, win 7 wasn't having it and installing win XP first and then win 7 from a usb stick worked, I haven't got around to blanking the drive out again to see if win 7 will install from a USB stick from scratch yet, but if I get time in amongst the builds and repairs I will give it go.
