Windows 7 keeps crashing, Blue screen ?

i have just had a thought, when ever the pc crashes utorrent is also running ???

Which would sort of lend itself to the network driver theory, Utorrent creates hundreds of connections and really pushes your network card.

Please don't use Windows Update to download the update it can cause more problems. It won't pick the best drivers its adviable to download the drivers from the vendors website. This is thier webiste Atheros Communications. This is one of our Seven Forum members webiste he is kind enough to maintain a list of all drivers and download links Drivers and Downloads

I must respectfully disagree. MS spent a fortune getting drivers into the Win7 installer or quickly updated via optional Windows Updates. In many cases they paid to build the drivers themselves in a partnership at Windows Hardware Quality Labs. This was because many manufacturer's held out in Vista to force users to buy newer hardware.

You can use the drivers given by installer and optional Windows Upate, unless performance dictates otherwise.

This device is older and reads as if it is possibly unsuitable for Win7, so getting a Windows Update driver is a lifeline.

I would have also tried the Vista driver in Vista compat mode in addition to XP.

I understand your point but if you go through the BSOD thread most of them casue due to a bad driver that comes through Windows Update. It's not just my opinion if you check usasma webiste Drivers and Downloads he has also mentioned about it.

Greg, I also have to disagree. Windows Update did not pick the best driver for two different graphics cards. Under both of those drivers, my computer kept freezing. I had to get the correct drivers from NVidia. I have experienced the same working with BSOD's here. I also recommend not using Windows Update for drivers.

Surely though, the OP has nothing to lose? the drivers for the Wireless dongle are dated 2007 (the same as the ones on the manufacturors website, which I already told him to download by the way.) and they are causing issues. the driver being offered by WU is dated 2008. If it fixes it and drivers are unavailable elsewhere I say go for it.

ok i have run windows update for the new driver as you said i have nothing to loose.
But when i look at the dricer details in device manager it still shows 2007 ? odd.
I will keep you updated...

Did you reboot after you installed the new driver? Did you uninstall the old driver first?

Atheros is notorious for BSOD. I have seen many occaction where Atheros used to cause BSOD !!

Pc kept dropping wifi connection with the new driver so i rolled back to the old driver and BSOD has re appeard again.
Can anyone recommend a decent Wifi Dongle ?

Continuous Crashing

I purchased a Window 7 OS 64 bit Home Premium edition 6 months ago. Unfortunately, the system has started "crashing" all of the time. I cannot find a pattern as to when it happens. The screen goes black and gives me a blue screen that is totally filled with information. It allows me 2-3 seconds to read it which is impossible. The only thing I have been able to get from it is that the Display Driver needs to be reset. I am not technical so I don't even know what this means or where/how I go about doing this. Please help!
