I recently changed the logon background screen and also engaged the option to have ctrl-alt-del be displayed at logon. After doing so, my user account image is gone. All I see is a a frame where the user picture should be located. In place of the picture, within the fram, I just see the background image of the logon screen. Does anyone have suggestions to restore my user image?

Thank you in advance!
Dave

Try to reset the log-on screen picture with the program you used to change it. Have you tried another user image?

I did use the original application to revert back to the original 7 logon screen, and this did not fix anything. I also tried a different image file for my user icon, and that did not resolve the issue either.

This is because you have set windows to not remember the last logged in user. Because it does not remember any users it cannot load the default user icon. See if this works for you.

First method, through the registry :
  1. Run Registry Editor (RegEdit).
  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  3. In the right pane, double click on DontDisplayLastName registry key value, and set its value data to 1.
Second method, through gpedit :
  1. Click on Start button, and type gpedit.msc into Start Search box, and hit Enter to open the Local Security Policy Editor.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options.
  3. In the right pane, double click on Interactive Logon: Do not display last user name.
  4. Select and set the radio button of Enabled.
  5. Click OK.
Now in your case you would want the opposite, and turn that off. So in registry to "0", and in gpedit "Disabled".
