Hi all,

Anyone using Windows 7 MCE? If so are you using a remote? Which one?

How do you find it?

Media Center is included in all editions of Windows 7 from Home Premium (?) up. There is no separate edition like there was XP.

I'm using 7MC (as the Media Center world has decided to refer to it). And yes it's included in Home Premium and up...

I bought this one
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Control-Receiver-Windows-A9O-00007/dp/B00066FIO6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252903282&sr=8-4"]Amazon.com: Microsoft Remote Control and Receiver for Media Center PC with Windows (A9O-00007): Electronics[/ame]

But I only paid like 25 dollars for it new. The people that are trying to sell it for 90 or what not are definitely trying to rip people off. Do a little deal hunting. It works perfectly fine for me, and I programmed the volume to my surround sound, and the tv power button to my tv. Works fine...

I've been using it for probably the last 3 years without a problem...

This one looks cooler though, I'd probably buy it if I needed a new remote...

I have the Microsoft cordless keyboard and it works just fine with 7MC.

I even installed the Black MC from the Aussie MC site. Everything works like a charm.

The only bad part no digital signal for Canadian users.

Using and loving 7MC.

Setting it up is super easy.

I have two TV cards installed to record programs.

Remote: Logitech Harmony Central 525. (brilliant)

Programs that make the icing on the cake for 7MC:

Media Browser (beautiful for browsing through Films, with fullscreen backgrounds of the film, and folder image)

Meta Browser (for finding all info on films like actors, plot and pictures, it adds all this to the mediabrowser)

Recommended site to learn everything about 7MC:

Good luck.

am using the MS remote, the best!

I have the MS remote to.

It does everything it needs to, but it's not in the same leage as Logitech's Harmony Central remotes.

Those remotes go way beyond the capabilities of the MS remote.

Let me line up a few goodies:

Out of the box it behaves exactly as the MS remote, but it has..

Online database with tens of thousands products supported, like VHS machines, TV's, Satelite tuners, Surround systems, Hifi Systems, even ovens and portable radios.
Also very handy if your irreplaceable remote is broken.

In the rare case your apparatus is not in the database, you can teach it the commands of the original remote, by pointing that remote to the Logitech remote.

It has macro buttons which enable you to give multple commands with one button.
When all my machines are off, and I want to see a movie on my MC,
I push one button, and that will put my TV, HTPC and Surround system on,
It will set the TV to AV, it will set the surround system to receive audio from the TV and sets it to 5.1, it will go into the movie section of 7MC.

The only thing left to do is select a movie. :D

One of my macro buttons puts everything to sleep when I go to bed.

MS is ok, but dwarfed by Logitech.

I agree completly.:D I use the Harmony 1000 and it allows me to define events as well as allowing control of specific functions.

So I have the following events:

Watch Movie - Switches on TV and selects correct input, switches on my external amp and selects correct input, starts 7MC, switches off sky;
Watch TV - Switches on TV and selects correct input, switches on my external amp and selects correct input, switches on sky;
Play Game - Switches on TV and selects correct input, switches on my external amp and selects correct input, Switches on my PS3, switches off sky;
Etc.

Your can also control home automation equipment with this kit in the same manner. It's more expensive and there is now a Harmony 1100 but if you can stretch to this price, you won't regret it.

No remote here, but an avid user/fan of 7MC :D

I find no reason to use any other player as using 7MC with the right combination of underwater* apps (i'm a Yammm fan too) works exceptionally well. Eventually i'll set up my own dedicated HTPC with remotes & all the Dolby stuff too :p

I'm using a WMC remote and keyboard, but with an imon ultra bay as a receiver (the imon ultra bay is a buggy POS to be honest, display crashing is biggest issue, but receives fine)

Anyone using dvb-s ?

I am using a 3010ix for dvb-t, and it was giving issues at first but its now settled down and seems my original problems were my mb bios. (memory set to auto voltage caused standby issues with tuner card fitted, set to +0.01v it works fine, go figure)

But I am wanting to try dvb-s so was just wandering if anyone was using a pcie or pci card

I'm using a Logitech Harmony 510 remote to control HTPC, Plasma TV, and Yamaha Receiver. I have it set up under "activities" to start all devices when I push the power on button. Remote works the HTPC under the imon software to control the HTPC, adjusting the volume controls the Yamaha sound system.

Remote that came with my Antec Black Fusion was pretty much useless, and I ordered my hauppage tuner via "whitebox" since I had no use for another remote.

I'm using MediaBrowser for viewing my Movie collection, I fell in love with it the first time I saw it here, and have spent considerable time customizing it to my liking.

At this point in time, replacing conventional TV channel and DVD viewing options with a dedicated HTPC are still a little shaky, for example, I was not going to keep an active internet connection on my HTPC, but found that the TV tuner guide required one to update the guide info, not a big deal to add another computer to the network, but I don't have room for a NIC in the Antec, the on-board LAN in my Asus P5L VM is NG, and I didn't have a USB device handy.

Other than a few small bugs, it's fairly easy to set up,I'm pretty happy with the way it is working so far, and it HAS to work correctly for the wife and once you have WMC working nicely, it truly is awesome.

Yeah, I've been using Win7 media center exclusively since last November when the first win7 pre-releases leaked.
My favorite remote is still the one that came with my XP Media Center Edition pc back in 2004. In fact, I still use the receiver that it came with instead of the newer one that came with my dell xps 420.
