Windows 7: More than 90 Million Copies Sold!

Word out in the world of tech news is Wndows 7 has surpassed 90,000,000 units sold. Not bad. It is now the fastest selling OS ever.

Today during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, our Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein announced that Windows 7 has sold 90 million licenses to-date! That's a lot of Windows 7.  We're humbled and excited that people are responding so positively to Windows 7 - our customers have made it the fastest selling operating system in history.

Peter also had an opportunity to show off some of the great hardware innovation coming from our partners in the PC business. He brought three great PCs on stage to show off: the Sony VAIO X which is so sleek and portable it could fit inside a MacBook Air, the Dell Adamo XPS which is the thinnest PC in the world, and the HP Envy 13 which combines breakthrough industrial design with tons of power. I had a hand in helping to get these PCs to Peter for the conference and it was fun to hear him talk about them on stage.

All in all, some great momentum for Windows 7 and some great PCs!

Less a quater still not have it installed, bought from retaillers...
The other bought new ones...ready

I will says 50 to 60 millions pc's are running 7 ?!? that's quite a lot indeed!!

NoN, if 90 mil were sold and only 50 to 60 have been installed what is happening with the other 30 to 40 million copies. Also when you look at the world population (5 to 6 billion people) 90 million is a small number, so me thanks your figures are a little out of sink.

Now I have purchased two of those 90 million copies, and both are installed. My oldest son (42) has five computers at home (home business) and they all are running Win 7. Hence your figures just seem to be a bit low.

And, why would people purchase a copy and not use it. Just some thoughts.

I don't think he even notices anymore. I am serious. He has what like 40 billion+ to his name. I really doubt you personally could spend even half of that if you wanted to without donating it or tossing $100 bills out the windows.

He could buy a new car every week at $50,000 and that would only be around 2,600,000 lol.

I almost wonder if to much money makes you wish you had less. You can't have any dreams. Like one day I would love to own a Lincoln car or whatever because you can just buy it without even thinking about it. Just about anything he wants he could buy. He could even buy a pro sport team without to much of a dent lol...

Still I would love to be him haha.

Well Lee, it is just extrapolation...it's so amazing anyway!

I guess manies who had own Home premium and Stater or Basic have upgrade either...so it had made at least two copy per person.

I know here, manies have bought two or three copies of Windows 7 Premium and Pro and are selling now for cheaper some of the copy they do own.I do not know excatly their reasons but it is quite interresting as they sell it a quater down the retailer price at the same retailer's place!

I will be perhaps one who's bought two copies...

If Bill Gates is getting richer (and i don't want to be in his shoes), hope he will offer some new enhanced features in the Windows 7 SP1!
