Windows 7 .NET updates no longer offered after the January 2018 messup

I have a very old AMD Sempron 3000+ powered PC running Windows 7 x64. In January 2018, I attempted to update this Windows 7 system AFTER the bricking of AMD equipped Windows 7 systems was realised and the updates for those systems were temporarily held back by Microsoft.

Since then, the Windows 7 security and quality rollup updates have resumed but not the accompanying .NET updates which I have had to install manually after downloading the necessary installation files from the Microsoft Update Catalogue.

My other Intel Windows 7 x64 system is not affected. Does anyone know how I can fix this lack of normal updates for .NET?

Hi hake,

What type of Windows updates are shown on both computers?

[1] Install updates automatically (recommended).
[2] Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.
[3] Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.
[4] Never check for updates (not recommended).

Also look at the Recommended updates section to see if they are ticked or not.

I hope this helps!

Hi Paul. Thank you for your interest and helpful hints. The January Meltdown/Spectre Microsoft updates bricked my old AMD Sempron processor equipped system and I had to recover using a full Acronis system backup done in November 2017. I subsequently received and installed the Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7 on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4049016 2017-11) on 19 January 2018 but no further .NET Security and Quality Rollups have been offered since January 2018. I have received and installed all other updates offered by Microsoft including all the monthly Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems.

The updates for my other Windows 7 x64 Intel equipped system have been uninterrupted.

I use Windows Update option [3] - "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them."
The .NET updates were not offered as 'Recommended". They were not offered at all. The recovered system was not actually exposed to the rogue updates of 9 January 2018 and the Windows Update settings have been unaltered for many months so it is a mystery why there is a problem at all. No updates whatsoever were received from Microsoft for this system from 19 January 2018 to 10 March 2018 when some 2018-02 updates were received and installed. I then had to wait until April for the March (2018-03) updates so I therefore have reason to believe that the Microsoft update processing for systems like my AMD Sempron were being deliberately held back and the .NET updates are still being mistakenly withheld.

I have to wonder what is wrong at Microsoft. It used to be able to do better than this. Microsoft is quite deaf to its users' concerns so I will probably have to manually manage the .NET updates all the way up to January 2020. In other words, I guess that Microsoft is unaware that it is blocking .NET updates for systems such as mine, nobody at Microsoft knows and there seems to be no way of letting them know.

Hi hake,

I just receive .NET rollup yesterday! Here's link to M$catalog stand-alone-installer.
You want x64.
