I have a Samsung MiniDV cam which I'm trying to connect to my laptop using a 4-pin firewire cable but when I connect it nothing happens. I tried updating the IEEE 1394 driver to the Legacy one and the Ricoh one but still no luck.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

Does the Device show in the Device Manager under Human Interface Devices .. Or in other Devices ? ..

What is the Model Number of the Device ?...

Dell doesn't show any drivers for Win7, only for WinXP and Vista 32-bit.

I've found over several years that if Dell doesn't have the drivers they may not be available elsewhere. My oldest Dell is a Latitude D810 and I got a new Inspiron 15r a few months ago. But then I've run into the same issues with other brands of Notebooks, Gateway doesn't even list my Pavilion M6888u from 2009.

The cam is Samsung VP-D381.

And no it's not listed in Device Manager at all.

I've also looked in the Dell drivers section for Windows Vista because most of the drivers work with Windows 7 as well but I can't find any for IEEE 1394.

If i were you I would try going directly to the Samsung support site to see what driver(s) they might have that may work for your firewire connection.

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.
It is only the Controller Driver for the Firewire ... Windows has the Driver for the IEEE 1394. .. Could be a faulty Cable ...
