I have a 6 or so year old computer that was custom built to be the best of its time but nowadays it is very sluggish with all the antivirus etc. It runs windows 2000 and i think it has 2gb of ram and a 1.8 GHz processor.
My question is: will it run windows 7 rc1 easily?

yeah it will run Windows 7 but I think Win2k is the faster operating system if you do a clean install. The only problem with Win2K is that you probably can't get Windows updates much longer.

EDIT - Well okay, Win2K is old and boring. But it's fast and stable.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Thanks

Thanks for your advice, I will do it soon.

If W7 recognizes your disks then why not.
If it doesn't work you've only wasted around 30 mins as you'll soon find out whether it will install or not.

You could possibly find Video driver problems but a 6 year old computer is 100% capable of running XP so you should be fine.

I wouldn't however want to try running the latest copy of Photoshop CS4 with HUGE files or running any serious video multi-media on this type of gear however.

Cheers

Windows 7 runs on my pc(which have a lower speed and memory than yours check my system spec) without any problem. So i hope it will run perfectly on your pc.

My old PC, which now belongs to my daughter has similar specs... P.4 3.2, 2 gig ram with Nvidia 6800GT.
I installed the RC on it (32 bit) for her and it runs perfectly.

Good luck and enjoy :)

Thanks. I did the install (the pc has two hard drives so i dual booted) and all went well except for what you said about the video driver problems. I have an nvidia geforce3 Ti 200 graphics card but i need a driver that is compatible with windows 7.

Also whe i said before that the pc had 2gb of ram i found out that it has only 512mb of it.
