Windows 7 on UEFI only PC?

I purchased (another) MiniPC in the hope of using it for work. I did not realise that the new PC was UEFI only and had no option to install Windows 10. That was a HUGE mistake! Absolutely nothing private and I do not believe in the Cloud, I prefer to be responsible for my own data. Anyhow, I will not rattle on about the lack of privacy and the enormous amount of bloatware.

How can I install Windows 7 on the new MiniPC computer? I understand the technology of the upgrade, but feel more comfortable with Windows 7.

Appreciate suggestions other than 'upgrade'.

What operating system did it come with? I assume that it came with Windows 11. What's the problem with it?

Windows 7 works fine with UEFI because I have a computer with Windows 7 that works fine with it. You can try to install Windows 7 on the MiniPC but there may not be drivers for the components that it has. From what little I have heard of them I wouldn't expect them to work with anything other that the version for Windows that came on them.

BTW, do you have a Product Key for Windows 7? You will need need it to activate Windows 7. Of course you can always install it and try it for 30 days without activating it. If you decide to keep it then activate it using the Product Key.

Assuming that the MiniPC came with Windows 11 I suggest you stick with it. I didn't like it at first but eventually got to like it.

If you are used to the look and feel of Windows 7 then try Open-Shell. It can make your Windows 11 feel more like Windows 7.

Thank you for the information. I apologise for not making my problem clear. When purchasing a computer, I do not purchase the OS, drive or RAM. I select them separately. The Asus Mini I felt would be great for work. What I did not realise is that the current BIOS' do not include Legacy/CSM.

Windows 7, OS itself is capable of using UEFI boot mode, but the operating system's bootloader does not, due to the way in which it loads the video controller and display drivers.

I have three registered copies of Windows 7 Ultimate and have the latest updated drivers installed. My Windows 7 is well setup and I also use OpenShell.

Since writing, I have found a program on Github called 'UEFI Seven'. It appears to be long winded but should solve the UEFI problem.

I am now seriously considering setting WLS2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux) on a separate hard drive. I would need to install Windows 10 (debloated) first then WLS2. (I have 2 registered copies of Windows 10 Pro.) As I understand, I will then be able to use 2 operating systems side-by-side - Windows and Linux, no virtualization.

Never a dull moment.

Any Windows OS newer than W7, has GDID issue, built into W11 W10 W8. but NOT on W7.

Extremely interesting article, thank you! While I recognize the rationale behind Microsoft's use of a GDID tracker, I personally prioritize my privacy and question the existence of true privacy in today's digital landscape.
