Hi to all,

Yet another windows update problem. There are 6 updates that will just not complete. Others have been succesful. I have ran the SURT both in February and the latest version from the MS site. This latest KB947821 version installed, it says with no problems. Last months version had problems and would not install. Ran SFC as administrator and although producing CBS.log says that it found no configuration problems. This has been bugging me for a couple of months now and these few updates just do not want to know. Attached are some sniping tool shots and the CBS.log file. Any forthcoming help much appreciated.

Please run the CheckSUR tool and upload the CheckSUR.log file - there are indications of potential registry-related problems in the background CBS data.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

Thanks for the info,

I have seen the checksur.log files and one similarly named. Should I delete them first before running the checkSUR tool?

No - running the tool again will over-write the CheckSUR log, and append the results to the CheckSUR.Persist.log, so nothing is lost :)

I had already ran the latest version of this windows update readiness tool KB947821 earlier today and it installed without any problems. I guess the existing CheckSur.log file should be the latest then. have uploaded this file as it is dated for the correct time and date today.

The tool is designed to run (install) under most circumstances - and will almost never complain unless there are some serious problems.
It generates a log - and can run again immediately afterward if required, as it doesn't actually 'install' anything, but only corrects (or attempts to correct) problems it finds.

In your case, it found nothing to correct.

I'm going to have to delve deeper to find the cause of your problems.

Here's the details of the first error in your CBS.log ...
Code:
2014-03-12 13:14:09, Info CBS Appl: Partial install Status testing, package: Package_for_KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7601.17514, partially installed (true/false), 0

2014-03-12 13:14:09, Info CBS Failed to find package from deployment update [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
2014-03-12 13:14:09, Error CBS Failed to check whether package is partially installed, package: Windows7SP1-KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.17514 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
2014-03-12 13:14:09, Info CBS Failed to evaluate external applicability for package update: 976933-0_neutral_PACKAGE [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

This type of error can be extremely difficult to isolate - it's often (almost always) quicker to do a repair install, than to attempt to fix the problem manually.

Here's the instructions for the repair install - let me know what you want to do?

Hi, Hope the pub has cheap beer.

Not sure what to do here as I have used windows loader version 2.2 to activate windows 7. So unsure which way to go with the repair install. I have a windows 7 boot disk but I guess I will have to download the latest windows 7 SP1 iso file, to burn or mount which ever would work the best.

Thanks for your help so far.

Benjytoo.

Further to the above see screen grab of what I do have on my Hard drive.View attachment 310140
Can this be run as it is or do I have to run from a burned ISO file onto a DVD running from a physical dvd drive?

This forum has a policy against assisting with counterfeit installs - which yours is, by definition, since you've used a Loader for activation.

I can only advise that you do a clean install with legitimate media and Key
