windows 7 or 10 ?

Biggest question is to the manufacture of this machine
Is installing 7 possible meaning did they make drivers for win-7 for it or not.

AFAIK, availability of NEW OEM Win7 computers (even for Enterprise) ended in October.
Anything you find now will likely be "refurbished" or "used".
"CAVEAT EMPTOR" in that regard...

yeah, thanks , i should have checked into it more before i typed.
there are 'new' laptops available but things like a i3 or celeron and older chipsets and cpu at 1.7ghz , just ain't going to cut it nowadays , well maybe for a year...
but there are some machines , Alien , that are PC w7 on PED's . and more $

My two cents worth I am lucky to have more than one machine and run both 7 and 10 on those machines and to be honest I set 10 up to be as much like a 7 GUI as I can. The only difference is is of course the update issue and answering problems re 7 on the 10 machine - but there ways around that.
The 10 I find a tad faster to Start up - run and shut down though 7 can be made to be not such a slouch

The only problem is finding a machine (new) that comes with 7 now and if it were me I would choose one that I could swap out the drive and get an OEM for 7 and drop that in on the new drive - something most of my machines have now. So in effect when the plug pulling comes I shall be set to go

Absolutely. I prefer 7 over 10 any day. Its easy and cheap enough to swap drives and have a fresh OS to start with.

Well I have to say I was really anti 10 for such a long time and went to extreme lengths to stop it installing on my machines when it was being pushed out as free - but I have thought about it and read so much and talked to many other members in here and came to the conclusion that 7 is going to end eventually, and would have to go over to 10. So I have installed 10 on three machines now the others I keep in 7. As for spyware it is also apparent to me that Microsoft is not the only company that track us keep our info etc etc.

Lets look at say Google and Apple for examples if one uses either they have more info on you than you would care to think about and for me storing stuff in the cloud is more of an intrusion possibility than using those two companies.

In any case if any individual wants your info unless you keep everything on your machine encrypted it is fair game to be hacked cracked call it what you will. Another example is the ability of federal agencies to watch for data that is private - again for example anyone who is delving into the dark side say paedophilia. In my mind nothing is safe on the net for if an individual can take down power grids vital governmental agencies then what chance you or I??

Look don't get me wrong because I think 7 is still the best system but it goes before saying that 10 will eventually take over and a system then not supported is worth not very much, and I speak of course of issues dealing with security which as I have said above is basic at best. I prefer the GUI of 7 although it is very easy to set 10 up to look and run like 7.

So the OP can draw what conclusion he wants from my little rant - personally I would be installing a 7 OEM and also keep a 10 OEM or think about getting one for later on. I know this depends on peoples budgets but this is an option that fortunately I can afford.

Sorry mate I was typing while your post was going through and you are quite right having both is a real advantage and truly running 10 to look like 7 is very easy take a look at my pic of my Sandy Bridge set up screen on hitting the Start button.
The apps that come with it by default you just delete them or get rid of them as you please

Edit If you want the search box you need to right click the taskbar and select from the options Cortana and from the options select > Show search box mine is hidden in the pic.

ICIT2LOL - John I'm with you mate. I'm partial to 7 because it's a great operating system. But I put 10 on one of my lappies just so I could see for myself if it was worth keeping. Yes, there's a learning curve and there are definite differences between 7 and 10. But now that I've had 10 a while I kinda like it. I also had to remind myself that when I went from XP to 7 (ignoring Vista) I had a similar learning curve and it took a while to embrace 7.

Yes mate it took me a while to realise as per my rant in post #8 that security in general is a bit of a misnomer if they want your info they will get it and to be honest if they want to know I bought some red underpants fro EBay then go for your life Microsoft

Once I set the machine sup as per my pic because they are the most used features I use the system is not that bad. I just find it a little harder at answering posts in 10 because I am not that fluent in it's functions yet.
The one thing that I wish they would change is go back to new posts and unanswered posts because I pick the eyes out of the posts in 10 for the unanswered as some have been waiting for ages for a reply- in 7 they are separated out - easier eh?

John, once you log in to Ten Forums you should see links to "What's New", "Forum", and "Tutorials" right under the 10 logo. Directly under those links I have links to "New Posts" and a link to "Forum Actions". "Forum Actions" then has a drop down menu for "Unanswered Threads". There may be an easier or quicker way to get to new and unanswered posts but this works for me.

Worst things about 10 is customizing.. it and of course re-customizing it after large updates...

7 needs little to no customizations it's good in my eye's out of the box
10 is way too much work.

Wuz wonderin' where to post this....

Finally took the plunge and picked up my xmas present, 15.6 lenovo ideapad110 with 10home, I guess the price will go back to 599 after Saturday.
So far I'm liking this ideapad, runs cool, 5hr battery, an hour and a half back to full charge from 20% and that's while I'm using it, snappy, and, it seems, a lot easier on my eyes compared to the desktop.

10 sure is a learning curve, everything seems to be there but they sure moved things around, one thing I have trouble with, is Edge, and no easy way to set the home page, no drag an'drop, or organizing favorites, doesn't open to new tab; after I find all the settings they'll do an update, right?

And, why? Does everything have to be so flat?
