yep well there goes the command prompt, Computer (This PC in 10) msconifg (again changed for 10) and I guess we shall end up having to pay Microsoft for writing the OS as well :sarc:

10 sure is a learning curve, everything seems to be there but they sure moved things around, one thing I have trouble with, is Edge, and no easy way to set the home page, no drag an'drop, or organizing favorites, doesn't open to new tab; after I find all the settings they'll do an update, right?

And, why? Does everything have to be so flat?

Steve, when you open Edge you should see 3 dots (. . .) in the upper right corner. Click on those dots and then scroll down to Settings. Once you open Settings, scroll to the bottom and click on View Advanced Settings. You're right, there's a big learning curve. Unfortunately, I don't see things getting any better.

I like Windows 7 (on 4 PCs) and have a spare retail license.
If I build a new PC (the 5th) I'll install Windows 10 pro (non SLP OEM) and learn to live with it.

And I thought the entire idea of feedback was to help MS build a better OS ? why in the he// would they remove the control panel ?

I think it would be fine, the life expectancy of a laptop seems to me about 3 years lately. But if you did get one that lasted until 2020, you could update it to 8 or 10 at that time.

Now there is a revelation they've known that for years foisting Vista then 8 on us in between XP and 10 and when one or two of us finally get the hang of it they give the next version.

Trouble is there is no viable alternative - have tried Linux and Ubuntu and well I found the use of a command prompt way of navigating some parts of the the system really quite irritating let alone time consuming.

I'm like mjf, I was used to XP and had to learn to live with 7 and that's what I'll do with 10.
I plan to do a mreflect backup after I load firefox, other essential programs, and after I uninstall the McAfee that lenovo uses, now there's a thread for later; What do you think of McAfee since Intel bought it out and has been developing it?

While using 10 I'm already thinking, now where did I see that in 7?

FF 52.0.2 and a .pdf reader is on 10 now.
I was thinking; If MS gets rid of CP, where are they going to "stuff" everything that's in there now? Imagine the paths getting to the view tab in folder options.... :shock: The tutorials will be glorious!
I see some system apps like msconfig have already been changed.

I would of liked to have seen 10home remain "traditional" and they could experiment to their hearts desire with 10pro, but in MS's way of thinking it's just a business.
I can picture the MS board room doing business with their blackberry's, earbuds and phones telling R&D what works and what don't, they have some personal desktop and smaller pc's but I'll bet, rarely use them, their families maybe, but not them. What feedback! Aww...Dad/Mom, can you do something about this?!?

We have a local TV station that went mobile on their weather show, some of the city labels block out the radar and satellite, I wrote them about it, didn't help, but I wrote.

Wellll...mite as well get comfortable and settle into working with my xmas present before I take my Winter's nap. Cold, rainy, and snow for the NE next Sunday the 11th.

I like Win10, but not its intrusiveness. If I could control the updates and stop the spying, I would be happy with it. But as it is, I've been on Linux for almost two years now, and it's excellent. The command prompt objection is old. I don't use the command prompt any more than I did in Windows (admittedly, my Linux Lite distro is a ubuntu derivative, and most programs have a .deb installer that needs no commands. For this reason I recommend a distro from the ubuntu family for beginners).

There is a learning curve, but with Lite (which is full-featured, BTW), it is minimal. Switching to LibreOffice took a good week of work, to learn macros and set up the interface, but now it's very close to what I want it to be. The net result is precious little MS on the machine, a classic interface, an OS built by people who value privacy and security as much as I, and no need for an AV at this point. Essentially, it boils down to freedom.

It is telling M$ that most people don't like Win 10, for many reasons.

M$ should launch a Win 7 SE with win 10 core (to be compatible with new hardware) but with the GUI and all functions of Win 7 and without the spy crap.

For years, I also have Lubuntu on my computer. It's fast, safe and free. And it looks like Windows. Once you learn how to use, you don't miss windows.

AFAIK, availability of NEW OEM Win7 computers (even for Enterprise) ended in October.
Anything you find now will likely be "refurbished" or "used".
