Windows 7 performance significantly decreased, what can be done?

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read my problem. I've been having issues with Windows ever since, what seems to me, the last time I updated my computer. I actually marveled at how quickly my machine could run with Windows 7 until today. Before I updated Windows everything ran flawlessly. I just upgraded my PC, completely new hardware. I believe this might have something to do with SP1 for Windows 7, because it's the ONLY new addition I've made to my computer since I updated. Everything seems to run choppy now and takes a much more noticeable time to load anything, such as any games I run, browser, system functions like opening folders and programs. Any suggestions or helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

SP1 was a large one. I defraged after I installed it and things were working okay.
To make sure I understand the order of things.
Installed new hardware and your computer worked like you wanted it to. Then you installed SP1 and things slowed down. Is this correct?

To prove whether it was SP1 or not, you could either uninstall it or carry out a system restore to a point before you installed the update.

You need to check how full your hard drive is and there are several things you can do to help.

Using Disk Cleanup, defragmenting your hard drive and uninstalling any software you don't use will all help.
