My Windows 7 Pro 64-bit desktop has not been able to do updates for several weeks. When I try to do updates I get this error code: Code 8007370B Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

When I followed the Get Help With This Error, Microsoft suggested I download, install and run Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64. I did and it did not help. I still can not do updates.

I read your instructions and have created the compressed CBS folder and tried to attached it to this post but the size limit for zipped files is 8 Mb and my CBS folder is 12 Mb. How shall I get it to you?

Thanks.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

You have a serious problem with Bitflips- possibly the result of failing RAM.

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Also - please follow the instructions here - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html and post the results.

I've uploaded a file - n2caa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All, and save to the default destination (which should be a folder on the desktop)

Create a new System Restore point

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

Code:
[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=black][FONT="Segoe UI"]IF EXIST C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1 DEL C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=black][FONT="Segoe UI"]REN C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD1[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=black][FONT="Segoe UI"]COPY %userprofile%\desktop\n2caa\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=black][FONT="Segoe UI"] [/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=black][FONT="Segoe UI"].

If you get an error with either command, STOP THERE - do not reboot! - post for instructions.

Assuming all commands go OK, reboot, and run another CheckSUR scan - post the new CheckSUR.log file.

Ran the memory test last night. Found I have one bad memory module. :-( Will get a new one on order today.
BTW. That is a nice memory diag program. I teach IT students and am keeping them informed about this problem. It is a great way to show them it is OK to defer to people with more expertise than them and that outstanding support can be found.

I will run the n2caa.zip file when I get home and post the results. The computer is running slow on 4 GB, but it is running a lot more solid.

Thanks

Downloaded the n2caa.zip file, extracted it, ran the script, rebooted, and ran the checkSUR scan. the resulting CBS log files are attached. It looks a lot better now. Still a few errors left. Let me know if you need any of the old zipped persist files that were in the CBS folder.

Thanks

I would recommend using the system as little as possible until that RAM is fixed - or at least you've removed the failing stick.

Just received notification that my new memory will be delivered this afternoon. Yea! I just ordered two new sticks and will replace all of the memory and keep the one good stick I have now as a "backup". Going back over my memory of this system, we may have gotten a bad stick of memory right off the bat when I upgraded about 18 months ago. My husband is the main user of this system and does not say a whole lot when "funky" things happen.

Will let you know how the memory install goes later today.

Just to let you know, if I didn't live in West Virginia, Scotland would be my choice. Visited there for about 2 weeks and didn't want to leave. Beautiful country and wonderful people.

Thanks

I've uploaded a file - n2cab.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

Please download and save it to your desktop.

Right-click on the file and select Extract All, andsave to the default destination (which should be a folder on the desktop)

Create a new System Restore point
Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the followingcommands.
Code:
IF EXIST C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1 DEL C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1
REN C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD1
COPY"%userprofile%\desktop\n2cab\COMPONENTS" C:\Windows\System32\config

[COLOR=black][FONT=Segoe UI].[/FONT][/COLOR]

If you get an error with either command, STOP THERE -do not reboot! - post for instructions.

Assuming both commands go OK, reboot, and run anotherCheckSUR scan - post the new CheckSUR.log file.
