Hi, recently updated my XP to W7
SP 1 is installed as are all current updates.

Installation went fine and once running goes well but more often than not I am having difficulty on start up.
When I power up the start up gets as far as the W7 logo then simply goes no further.
The comp just freezes there untill I switch it off again no matter how long I wait.
When powered up again I have attempted several startup repairs in system recovery options. No faults are found.
After resorting to a system restore the computer will always start up successfully.

I use an external drive and have tried starting up without it connected to see if it makes a difference but no. :(

I'm starting to get fed up of having to constantly do system restores to get the comp going.
Absolutely any suggestions will be greatfully appreciated indeed!

Many thanks
Chris

Many thanks for the quick reply and warm welcome.

I think you may be right about doing a clean install.
I assume I can I go through the very same procedure now that I have Window 7 Installed.
Is it possible to format the computer at this stage also with the upgrade?

Many thanks indeed!
Chris

You're very welcome.

The Windows installer will automatically format the drive as you'll be carrying out a Custom install.

Providing you didn't enter the product key and activate the upgrade you can now go ahead with a clean install.

If you did enter your product key and activate Windows you need to follow the tutorial to the letter.

If you're in any doubt as to which way to go, you won't go wrong with the tutorial's method.
