I hope I get my question out so it is understood.

Open computer, locate the c drive, select it. On the right side you will see a list of the folders and in the pro version, click either one of the either program files you will see a list of folders on left side of the right pain then if the divider is wide enough in the right pain you will see the modified date and the word "file fikder".
Now my question: the modified date and file folder characters are VERY dim, the folder names are bright and very readable.

Another are of lightness is in windows live mail. If i want to save an email I click file save as locate a place I want to save it other that within windows live mail I look for the date it was received in the upper right site of the message. IT IS VERY DIM.

Does anyone know how these areas described can be increased in brightness? At 81 my eyes are not as sharp as they used to be. If I am on a web site and have this problem I can hold the crtl key down and use the wheel on the mouse to make the screen and text bigger this solves the problem there but not anywhere else.

I'm not sure but after 25+ years as an RN and at your given age of 81 yrs young and the symptom of "very dim on the right side' of both the mail and the C:\ area I'm wondering if you may have an advanced cataract in the right eye. Just try covering your right eye and viewing the areas you mentioned in your post and let us know. I believe you can see the "Folders" clearly as they are located on the left side of the screen and you use your left eye to view that side.

Wiondows 7 Pro screen brightness

I have 7 computers, I teach computers. Only the Windows 7 Pro and home premium give me a problem on any text. In Win 7Pro (desk top) home premium (laptop) cause the problem. I also have an XP Home premium on a laptop and desktop, no problem. This condition I describe is only on Windows 7 and is the less looked at areas of the screeen that are very definetly much dimmer. The only text on this screen that is dimmer than what I am typing now is any text that is an active link. Text the same color(light blue) that is not an active link is fine. What it appears that the text i am having trouble with is only on 50% of time instead of 100% like the folder list looking at the program file text. I have had both cataracts removed and just passed my driviers test.

Thank you for your reply, I think you have placed me on the right track, will do as you have suggested.

One point, I am using Windows Live Mail Essentials 2011 which looks a lot different than your images but still has my problem no matter which version I had.

Jerry "Bongo"...thanks for the heads-up on that one. My lappy is the one with Win 7 HP and I noticed the 'grey light type'....it was the Aero Theme alright.
Thanks,

Your Welcome. I guess you switch to a basic theme then?

Good Morning Just married,
I hope you were not insulted by my reply as it was not my intent. I fired up my back-up computer which is very seldom used. It's a lappy with Win7 HP and just like you said light grey text. I also turned down the brightness on the LCD screen. Bongos screenshots really helped. So I stopped the Aero Theme. All my other (3)computers are still running Vista Ultimate so I never noticed it. BTW I do have cataracts in both eyes and will be having surgery next month......hope the fuzzy letters and the inability to read street signs at night go away. I don't drive at night any longer until resolved.
Take care,
Jakeman97
