Last night after some modem problems which may be coincidental Windows 7 PRO (OEM) suddenly de-activated. It now will not re-activate either by the normal method or by telephone. No hardware has been changed and to my knowledge no new software was installed although some of course may have been updated. I was simply attempting to browse the web. It came with a new build and has been fine since November 2011. Checking the error logs I find these related messages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a genuine copy of Windows complete with all the hologram markings bought with new hardware and was fine up until last night.

What error did you get when you tried to validate? Did you use the 25 character code on the COA sticker attached to the computer?

It said the key was invalid for activation BUT an error message also popped up and vanished so quickly I wasn't able to read it which was odd. Should the resolve button on the MGA tool be greyed out?

Having said that, the error from cod-block 2 indicates a Blocked Key.

From where did this license originate?

The Key is an COA_SLP Key, which means it MUST have been pre-installed on the machine at purchase to be legal.

I would suggest using telephone activation and speaking to an operator....

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

I tried speaking to an operator and it didn't help. They went through the same procedure. I'm running a SFC /SCANNOW from an Administrator Command prompt to check for any file corruption.

OK it's running. Elevated is the same as Administrator I presume? Right click and run as admin etc. One other thing that may not be related is that it removed my desktop wallpaper theme at the same time but I suppose that may just be so the message in the lower right corner shows up clearly.

It's an OEM Licence bought with new hardware. It certainly appears genuine. All holograms on the disk and the sticker appears correct.
