Windows 7 Guide

whs,

Hi, I'm a newbie here and want to thank you for the Guide. Looks like good material for the Computer Club members here at my retirement village! We have 110 members in the Club and many are leery of 7, so if I get this spread around, it may help to grease the skids.

Thanks again, Noels

Hi Noels, you are welcome. I know what you are talking about because I teach at a Florida computer club with 650 members (average age probably 70). One of my classes you can download from my Skydrive site. It is a 65 page PDF document for a 4 hour class and also contains the videos for the whole class. It addresses XP, Vista and Windows7 facilities and covers desktop, disk, RAM, CPU plus a lot of hints and tips. Maybe you can make use of it.

whs,

Thanks again. I downloaded your material and it looks like a great class offering for some of our folks here. Our age group is about the same, and this material looks like a good beginning session for many new users. Our classes are small since we only have a 10 station computer lab (each station with XP, Vista and 7), but I'll bring this material to our Steering Committee for possible later use, with your permission.

Thanks again for your help, and I'll be keeping in touch...

Happy Spring and enjoy the sunshine down there in FL :)

Noels

BTW, We live in Southern Maryland

Noels, as you may have seen, the link to the videos is at the beginning of each chapter. You can even distribute the document to your members and they can watch the 4 videos in the comfort of their home (maybe in preperation for a hands-on class). They are 45 minutes to 75 minutes long. On the first page in chapter 0 there is also a link to our club. There you can see what we are doing. There is also a tutorial link below my instructor profile (Wolfgang Schroeder). There you can find more tutorials. And, of course, you can use all that for your purposes.

whs,

I've watched the beginnings of each of your 4 lessons and have been very impressed!! I hope to get this material distributed to our members soon, and I'm sure they will be quite happy that they can do these lessons in the privacy of their own residences and review them as many times as they feel the need...

Our next Club meeting is on April 14th - I hope to cover the method of your first 4 lessons with them and send them to whomever would like to have them to user in their residence.

I very much appreciate your giving of your time and effort to help folks learn about Windows. I'll let you know how things go with our members.

Thanks again, Noels

I hope your members can get something out of it. In my club, the class was well received. I use this format because in the traditional classes, the attendees walk away and remember maybe 5 or 10% of what they have heard. But with the document and the videos they can easily augment that percentage - at least those who wish to learn something.
In addition to the 2 day class (2 times 2 hours) I always schedule a Q&A session about 10 days later. Because after they have tried everything, that's when the real questions come up. The attendance is usually 40 to 50% of the original class - which I think is pretty good.
I will be waiting for your experience report after April, 14.

As many of you have noticed, there is a lot of information out there about Windows 7 now that it is available for everyone. You can find information on everything from the Action Center to Windows XP Mode on various blogs and web pages all over the Internet. You might want a concise guide of what Windows 7 has to offer and how it can help you and your business. With this in mind we created the Windows 7 Product Guide. This easy to read guide gives you a clear overview of the features in Windows 7 without a lot of technical jargon that you might find in other content. The guide was designed to educate and inform readers about benefits you get from adopting Windows 7.

The Windows 7 Product Guide is has three major sections:

  • Introduction - Describes how Microsoft designed Windows 7, what editions of Windows 7 are available and what is new.
  • Windows 7 for You - Goes over features in Windows 7 that, simplify everyday tasks, works the way you want, and makes new things possible.
  • Windows 7 for IT Professionals - Explains how Windows 7 can make people productive anywhere, manage risk though enhanced security and control, and reduce costs by streamlining PC management. This section also has an overview of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack to help you learn about how this set of applications can help you get to a more managed and optimized desktop.
If you are looking for a good reference guide about Windows 7, I recommend that you download a copy of the Windows 7 Product Guide here (XPS and PDF versions available).
