Did somebody noticed the Key.txt file in the Virtual Machine folder during the installation ?

There is a Windows XP key in that file. I just wondered if everybody will have the same or if Microsoft is just offering a free key to everybody who will install that beta...

i had to uninstall this as my cpu did not support virtualisation. I dont understand why that is needed as you should be able to run it like nornal Virtual PC

Have you checked bios to make sure all virtualisation settings are enabled?

Well i didnt check main PC which has Opteron 175@3ghz but that has vista sp2. The samsung nc10 netbook with atom has the w7100RC

So far pretty impressed. Doesnt even take up hardly any resources at all according to task manager. As you can see the vpc process's are like 22mb and then of course the app you are running in XP mode. I'm sure this increases with more heavy usage (and mabye more than task manager reports) but it really uses very little. And you can adjust the RAM the virtual PC uses for XP. The default of 256mb may be low, but enough to run those legacy business apps (i'm thinking business needs). Granted you do have to have the right CPU.

i dont understand why CPU/mobo needs to support virtualisation, i could just install virtualbox or if it worked virtual PC and set it up......

I've attached (directly not in the torrent) a FREE public domain utility from vmware. Whilst this actually checks vmware's requirement that you can run a 64 bit guest (windows xp doesn't require this of course as it's a 32 bit OS) it's still useful :

What ist shows if your CPU passses the test is that the VT is enabled in your CPU and therefore meets the requirements for running "XP mode" .

Simply ignore the 64 bit guest message -- if it passes the test your machine meets MS requirements for running in "XP compatability mode".

Pity MS doesn't provide a similar test.
